I love these old recordings! With all the technical advances which followed, something was lost- this has such muscle, punch and "honesty". It's there in your ears. happening right there and then. Some lady at the grocery store I work at complained about the music played over our intercom. Our boss agreed to make a change and started playing Jazz, Band, and Classical music. That how I discovered this song... Wish I had the chance to thank that lady

Another story goes that he learned it from Jo Stafford when they were both with Dorsey but wouldn't admit he got so much of his sound from a woman. She was operatically trained and is renowned for the purity of her voice.
