Let It Snow Let It Snow Let It Snow
Frank Sinatra Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Oh the weather outside is frightful
But the fire is so delightful
Since we've no place to go
Let it snow, let it snow, let it snow

It doesn't show signs of stoppin'
And I've brought some corn for poppin'
The lights are turned down low
Let it snow, let it snow, let it snow

When we finally kiss goodnight
How I'll hate goin' out in the storm
But if you'll really hold me tight
All the way home I'll be warm

The fire is slowly dyin'
And, my dear, we're still goodbyin'
As long as you love me so
Let it snow, let it snow, let it snow

He doesn't care if it's ten below
He's sittin' by the fire's cozy glow
He don't care about the cold and the winds that blow
He just says, "let it snow, let it snow, let it snow" (let it snow)
"Ooh wee," goes the storm
Why should he worry when he's nice and warm?
His gal by his side and the lights turned low
He just says, "let it snow, let it snow" (I don't care)

The weather outside is frightful
But that fire is, mmm, delightful
Since we've no place to go
Let it snow, let it snow, let it snow

It doesn't show signs of stoppin'
And I've brought lots of corn for poppin'
The lights are way down low
So let it snow, let it snow, let it snow (let it snow)

When we finally say goodnight
How I'll hate goin' out in the storm
But if you'll only hold me tight
All the way home I'll be warm

The fire is slowly dyin'
And, my dear, we're still goodbyin'

As long as you love me so
Let it snow, let it snow, let it snow

Overall Meaning

In Frank Sinatra's classic Christmas song, “Let It Snow! Let It Snow! Let It Snow!”, the singer speaks about facing a snowstorm with a loved one on a cozy night in. The song begins with the disclosure that the weather outside is “frightful,” but there is a fire that’s “so delightful,” creating a warm and romantic atmosphere. As the snow continues to fall, the pair has all they need inside and sees no reason to leave the comfortable setting.

The second verse focuses on specific moments of enjoyment with popcorn, low lights, and music. The lines depict the idea of creating a “homey” ambiance, further emphasizing the appeal of staying snuggled up inside. The third verse emphasizes the desire to avoid leaving the warm shelter to brave the elements outside. However, if the singer's lover holds them tight, they will feel warm all the way home.

Finally, in the last verse, the fire is dying, and the couple must say goodbye, but the singer still has the warmth of their love, and they want the snow to keep falling. Overall, the song emphasizes the importance of love, warmth, and happiness during the festive winter season.

on The Lady Is A Champ

eight

She gets too hungry for dinner at eight
She can't eat late and stay up all night, because unlike society types, she has to get up in the morning.

She likes the theatre and never comes late
She cares more about seeing the play than being seen making an entrance.

She never bothers with people she'd hate
Her friends are friends, not social trophies.

Doesn't like crap games with barons or earls
While barrns and earls probably don't play craps, she associates with friends, not people to be seen with.

Won't go to Harlem in ermine and pearls
She doesn't "slum", the practice of the rich in the 30's, when the song was written, of touring poor neighborhoods dressed in rich clothes to "tut, tut" about the deplorable conditions, and congratulate each other for "caring about the poor"

Won't dish the dirt with the rest of the girls
Doesn't trade gossip for acceptance among an in-crowd

She likes the free, fresh wind in her hair
She cares more about how her hair feels than conforming with current hair fashions

Hates California, it's cold and it's damp
Since most of California is noticeably warmer and / or drier than New York, where the play the song was written for is set, this is probably a facetious excuse to like what she likes.

And she won't go to Harlem in Lincoln's or Ford's
Another reference to slumming, but facetious, since Lincolns and Fords were middle-class, not luxury brands when the lyric was written

on Try a Little Tenderness

Here are the correct lyrics

Try A Little Tenderness - Frank Sinatra - Lyrics

Oh she may be weary
Women do get wearied
Wearing that same old shabby dress
And when she’s weary
You try a little tenderness

You know she’s waiting
Just anticipating things she’ll may never possess
While she is without them
Try just a little bit of tenderness

It’s not just sentimental
She has her grieve and her care
And the words that soft and gentle
Makes it easier to bear
You wont regret it
Women don't forget it
Love is their whole happiness
And it’s all so easy
Try a little tenderness

Musical Interlude

And, it’s all so easy
Try a little tenderness
