Put Your Dreams Away
Frank Sinatra Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Put your dreams away for another day
And I will take their place in your heart
Wishing on a star never got you far
And so it's time to make a new start

When your dreams at night
Fade before you
Then I'll have the right
To adore you

Let your kiss confess this is happiness, darling
And put all your dreams away

When your dreams at night
Fade before you
Then I'll have the right
To adore you

Let your kiss confess this is happiness, darling
And put all your dreams away

Overall Meaning

Frank Sinatra’s song 'Put Your Dreams Away' is a beautiful love song that emphasizes the importance of letting go of unfulfilled dreams to embrace the beauty of love. The lyrics encourage the listener to put aside their dreams for another day and let love take their place in their heart. The line "Wishing on a star never got you far" suggests that dreams alone can’t bring happiness and it’s time to start afresh.

The verses suggest that when the listener's dreams start to fade, Frank Sinatra will be waiting in the wings to be there for them. The lyrics "Then I'll have the right to adore you" conveys a sense of longing and tenderness. The chorus reinforces the idea that love is more important than any dream, and encourages the listener to confess their happiness through a kiss, and put away their dreams to enjoy the moment.

Frank Sinatra's 'Put Your Dreams Away' was one of the final recordings for Columbia records before moving to Capitol records. Sinatra and Axel Stordahl, his arranger, created the melody for the song, while Ruth Lowe provided the lyrics. The song became a popular hit, and Frank Sinatra performed it numerous times in concerts and on television. The song also featured in the 1949 musical film ‘It Happened in Brooklyn,’ which starred Frank Sinatra, Jimmy Durante, and Kathryn Grayson.

he’s so good that you can watch him sing and yet it’s hard to believe your eyes, that anyone can sing with so much meaning and craft. when it’s flawless, it’s almost invisible, like a trick. it’s hard to believe this guy’s real. there’s only one Frank Sinatra.
