Somewhere My Love
Frank Sinatra Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Somewhere, my love there will be songs to sing
Although the snow covers the hope of spring
Somewhere a hill blossoms in green and gold
And there are dreams all that your heart can hold

Someday we'll meet again my love
Someday whenever the spring breaks through
You'll come to me out of the long ago
Warm as the wind, soft as the kiss of snow
Lara my own, think of me now and then
God speed my love till you are mine again

You'll come to me out of the long ago
Warm as the wind soft as the kiss of snow

Till then my sweet think of me now and then
God speed my love 'til you are mine again

Overall Meaning

The lyrics to Frank Sinatra's song "Somewhere My Love" speak of a longing for a lost love. The opening lines set the scene of a snowy winter, possibly bleak and barren, but there is a glimmer of hope that springs will return and bring with it new life. The reference to "Somewhere" suggests that while the singer is physically present in their current location, their heart and mind are elsewhere, consumed with thoughts of someone they love. The imagery of a hill blossoming in green and gold further emphasizes the hope that nature can bring about renewal and regeneration.

The chorus of the song speaks of the singer's belief that they will be reunited with their love, although it may not happen until spring arrives. The phrase "you'll come to me out of the long ago" suggests that the relationship between the two may be distant or over, but that the singer believes there is a chance they will be reunited. The descriptions of their love as warm as the wind and soft as the kiss of snow paint a vivid picture of a love that is both powerful and tender. The closing lines suggest that the singer will continue to think of their love even though they are apart, and they end with a heartfelt wish for their reunion.

Overall, the lyrics to "Somewhere My Love" are a beautiful portrayal of the enduring power of love and the hope that it can bring even in the darkest of times.

on The Lady Is A Champ

eight

She gets too hungry for dinner at eight
She can't eat late and stay up all night, because unlike society types, she has to get up in the morning.

She likes the theatre and never comes late
She cares more about seeing the play than being seen making an entrance.

She never bothers with people she'd hate
Her friends are friends, not social trophies.

Doesn't like crap games with barons or earls
While barrns and earls probably don't play craps, she associates with friends, not people to be seen with.

Won't go to Harlem in ermine and pearls
She doesn't "slum", the practice of the rich in the 30's, when the song was written, of touring poor neighborhoods dressed in rich clothes to "tut, tut" about the deplorable conditions, and congratulate each other for "caring about the poor"

Won't dish the dirt with the rest of the girls
Doesn't trade gossip for acceptance among an in-crowd

She likes the free, fresh wind in her hair
She cares more about how her hair feels than conforming with current hair fashions

Hates California, it's cold and it's damp
Since most of California is noticeably warmer and / or drier than New York, where the play the song was written for is set, this is probably a facetious excuse to like what she likes.

And she won't go to Harlem in Lincoln's or Ford's
Another reference to slumming, but facetious, since Lincolns and Fords were middle-class, not luxury brands when the lyric was written

on Try a Little Tenderness

Here are the correct lyrics

Try A Little Tenderness - Frank Sinatra - Lyrics

Oh she may be weary
Women do get wearied
Wearing that same old shabby dress
And when she’s weary
You try a little tenderness

You know she’s waiting
Just anticipating things she’ll may never possess
While she is without them
Try just a little bit of tenderness

It’s not just sentimental
She has her grieve and her care
And the words that soft and gentle
Makes it easier to bear
You wont regret it
Women don't forget it
Love is their whole happiness
And it’s all so easy
Try a little tenderness

Musical Interlude

And, it’s all so easy
Try a little tenderness
