Imagination
Frank Sinatra & The Tommy Dorsey Orchestra Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
Makes a bee think of honey just as I think of you
Imagination is crazy, you whole perspective gets hazy
Starts you asking a daisy what to do, what to do
Have you ever felt a gentle touch and then a kiss and then, and then
Find it's only your imagination again, oh well
For example I go around wanting you
And yet I can't imagine that you want me too
Imagination is silly, you go around willy-nilly
For example I go around wanting you
And yet I can't imagine that you want me too
The lyrics to Frank Sinatra & Tommy Dorsey's song 'Imagination' describe the funny and sometimes strange power of the imagination. The song's opening line suggests that the imagination can transform a cloudy day into a sunny one, much like it can change one's entire perception of reality. The second line compares the association of a bee with honey to the singer's own fixation on the object of his affection.
The second verse delves into the craziness of imagination, suggesting that it can cause a person to lose their bearings completely, leading them to ask inanimate objects for advice on what to do. The third verse is perhaps the most honest of the song, as it acknowledges the silliness of allowing the imagination to go unchecked. The singer confesses his own desire for the person he is singing to, while simultaneously admitting that he cannot imagine that she feels the same way in return.
Overall, the song is a sweet and lighthearted tribute to the power of emotion and imagination, with Sinatra's smooth vocals and Dorsey's iconic arrangements pairing perfectly to deliver a timeless classic that has endured for many years.

Speaking to my sister this evening these words came to mind. We went here (hear!!) there and everywhere and then I found this. Many many thanks. Guess my age?? I still remember the tune but not the words. Funny how some tunes/songs/words stick isn't it? Just found the lyrics - from a time gone by. Can you imagine these words being sung nowadays? Nor can I.
