The Christmas Waltz
Frank Sinatra with Gorden Jenkins and Orchestra Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Frosted window panes, candles gleaming inside
Painted candy canes on the tree
Santa's on his way, he's filled his sleigh with things
Things for you and for me

It's that time of year when the world falls in love
Ev'ry song you hear seems to say
"Merry Christmas, may your New Year dreams come true"
And this song of mine in three-quarter time
Wishes you and yours the same thing, too

(Merry Christmas)

(It's that time of year when the world falls in love)
(Ev'ry song you hear seems to say)
"Merry Christmas, may your New Year dreams come true"
And this song of mine in three-quarter time
Wishes you and yours the same thing, too

There's this song of mine in three-quarter time
Wishes you and yours the same thing, too

This is the 1957 version with Gordon Jenkins. As far as I know, Frank recorded this three times; the other two were both with Nelson Riddle, 1954 and 1968. They’re all great. I’m not sure which is my favorite. Could you even imagine working with Nelson Riddle and Gordon Jenkins? Two giants.

According to Sammy Cahn, this was composed at the request of Sinatra himself. Havent't found a dance band recording of this masterpiece. Anybody?

Good question, Paul! This one's a bit of a jazzy instrumental https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xuN8uqH_bwE , and the Harry Connick vocal version has echoes of a more traditional band sound: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=x3bLViqf1sM Nothing else of which I'm aware. Bob
