The group's debut single, titled "Relax", was famously banned by the BBC and subsequently topped the U.K. singles chart for five weeks, enjoying prolonged chart success throughout 1984. Following the phenomenal follow-up success of "Two Tribes" and "The Power of Love", the latter being an emotional ballad experiencing seasonal resurgence over the years, FGTH became only the second act in the history of the UK charts to reach number one with their first three singles.
Things began to unravel in 1985 when their fourth single, "Welcome To The Pleasuredome", stalled at number two (success that many other groups would deeply envy, but they faced massive expectations). Their second (and final album), called 'Liverpool', took over a year to complete, reportedly at huge expense. The lead-off single, "Rage Hard", peaked at number four, and it was clear that the public had began to move on. 'Liverpool' sold poorly, despite critical acclaim and underground song plays, and conflict between lead singer Holly Johnson and the rest of the band led to an acrimonious split.
Johnson embarked on an initially successful solo career, but he quickly spiraled into obscurity. The rest of the band broke up completely after several attempts to recruit a new lead singer. Nonetheless, the group had proved hugely influential. Their three number one singles have been extensively remixed and repackaged over the years, and, despite their limited back catalogue, the band is generally seen as being one of the defining moments of the eighties. Numerous new wave and post-punk music revivalists look back to their aggressive yet stylish sound as an inspiration. The band is also known today for having a hit video game based around them for the ZX Spectrum, Amstrad CPC and Commodore 64, giving them an interesting spot in video gaming history.
Lunar Bay
Frankie Goes to Hollywood Lyrics

Make me lose control, fill me with love
My mind is blasing and were escaping, the real world
Swing and sway on Lunar bay
On Lunar bay, yeah
Touch my very soul, makes me lose control
My dreams unfold, you fill me with love
Feel me walking in the sun
Hear me talking to the moon
I won't change for anyone
I'm just for you
Touch my very soul, makes me lose control
My dreams unfold, fill me with love
The train of faces are going places, get on board
Swing and sway on Lunar bay
On Lunar bay , yeah
Swing and sway, swing and sway
Feel me walking in the sun
Hear me talking to the moon
I won't change for anyone
I'm just for you
When the wind rushes in
To hemald the king
Just stay in my heart
Forever more
Feel me walking in the sun
I won't change for anyone
When the wind rushes in
To hemald the king
Just stay in my heart
Forever more
In the sun
I won't change for anyone
In the common age of automation, where people might
Eventually work ten or twenty hours a week, Man for
The first time will be forced to confront himself with
The true spiritual problems of living
The lyrics to "Lunar Bay" by Frankie Goes to Hollywood are filled with themes of love, escape, and spirituality. The first verse shows a vulnerability as the singer invites someone to "walk right through [their] soul" and "keep out the cold." The person fills them with love and the singer feels like they're escaping from the real world when they're together on Lunar Bay. The chorus repeats the idea of the person touching the singer's soul and making them lose control, while also hinting at a larger group experience with the "train of faces."
The second verse has a similar structure, with the singer claiming that the person makes their dreams unfold and that they won't change for anyone. The bridge adds a more serene tone with the image of walking in the sun and talking to the moon, and the idea that the singer won't change but always be there for the person they're addressing. The last verse has a mystical quality with the mention of the wind and the king, before returning to the refrain of the singer not changing for anyone.
Overall, "Lunar Bay" can be interpreted as a love song with elements of escapism and self-discovery. The imagery of the moon, sun, and wind allude to a larger universe beyond the two people, but ultimately it's their connection that matters. The lyrics also suggest that in a future society where automation has made work less necessary, people may face spiritual challenges, which is both a prediction and a reflection on the time when the song was released.

Frankie had a lot more substance than the critics gave them credit for, this track is a great example of their depth. These boys knew how to get a groove going! Thanks for posting.

The lyrics are so poetic, the drumbeat so mesmerizing, this song is awesome. it always energizes me ever since I saw Frankie perform it live in the Wembley Arena, January, 1987 - what an awesome, atmosphere-loaded night, with the wind rushing in, that was!

One of the very best bands and producers ever. Totally brilliant - can listen to FGHW albums over and over and still pick up on some amazing nuance layered in the music. I think it is proof that God totally loves music... Loud. (-:

No. This takes too much time being precious over every nuance. People just want to get to the money fast nowadays, in and out of the studio fast as possible, they got no time for ART.
