The band first experienced chart success when their second single "Take Me Out" reached #3 in the UK Charts, followed by their debut album Franz Ferdinand which entered the UK album chart at #3. The band went on to win the 2004 Mercury Music Prize and two BRIT Awards in 2005 for Best British Group and Best British Rock Act. NME named Franz Ferdinand as their Album of the Year. From the album, three top-ten singles were released, "Take Me Out", "The Dark of the Matinée" and "This Fire". The band has also received several Grammy Award nominations.
The band is named after Archduke Franz Ferdinand of Austria whose assassination was one of the main reasons for the start of the First World War. The band decided on the name after seeing a racehorse named Archduke Ferdinand win the Northumberland Plate in 2001, eventually coming to the decision as the alliteration and sound of the name appealed to them.

Franz Ferdinand Lyrics

In a place that I can't live
I kinda find I like a life
This lonely
It rips and pierces me
In places I can't see
I love the rip of nerves
The rip that wakes me
I love to satisfy
I love to feel there's always more that I need
So come on home
So come on home
So come on, home home
You're where you want to be
I'm where I want to be
Come on we're chasing
Everything we've ever wanted
Replace you easily
Replace pathetically
I flirt with every flirty thing
That falls my way
But how I needed you
When I needed you
Let's not forget
We are so strong
So bloody strong
So come on home
So come on home
So come on, home home
Blue light falls
Upon your perfect skin
Falls and you draw back again
Falls and this is how I fell
And I cannot forget
And I cannot forget
Come on home
So come on home
But don't forget to leave
The lyrics of Franz Ferdinand's song 03. Come On Home are about a relationship that has ended, and the two people involved are trying to move on. The singer speaks about his lover living somewhere he cannot go and the feeling of loneliness that comes with being apart. He admits that he enjoys this feeling despite it ripping and piercing him in places he can't see because it wakes him up. He is too satisfied with the feeling of needing more, and he loves to satisfy that feeling. The singer invites his lover to come back home even though they are both where they want to be, and they are chasing everything they ever wanted. He talks about how he can easily replace his lover, but he still remembers how much he needed them when he needed them. The two of them are strong, and they should not forget that. The lyrics end with a reference to a "blue light" falling upon the lover's perfect skin, which the singer cannot forget, but he still tells them to come back home and leave his life.
