When I Fall in Love
Fred Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
I fall in love too terribly hard, for love to ever last
My heart should be well schooled, 'cause I've been fooled in the past
And still I fall in love too easily, I fall in love too fast
I fall in love too easily, I fall in love too fast
I fall in love too terribly hard, for love to ever last
My heart should be well schooled, 'cause I've been fooled in the past
The lyrics of Fred Hersch Trio's "Fall" is all about the singer's tendency to fall in love too quickly and too easily, even though they have been hurt in the past. The first two lines of the song immediately set the tone for the rest of the song, as they express how intensely the singer falls in love, but the next line shows that the singer knows that their love cannot last, and that it is too easy to be fooled by love. The repetition of the lines only emphasizes the singer's feelings of desperation and fear of being hurt again.
The line "My heart should be well schooled, 'cause I've been fooled in the past" suggests that the singer has been hurt before, and that they should have learned from their experiences. However, the fact that they continue to fall in love too easily suggests that they have not yet fully healed from their past heartbreaks.
Overall, "Fall" is a poignant and introspective ballad about the nature of love, and how it can be both exciting and painful at the same time. The repetitive nature of the lyrics only emphasizes the singer's feelings of desperation and fear of being hurt again.

thanks so much for watching. I have always considered Carefree my fave since I was a child but have heard so many times how ppl do not like the plot. I do think the plot is far more interesting than their previous ones :) Regardless, you are right, the dances in this film are so amazing.

While I'm not crazy about the plot of "Carefree", it DOES feature some of Fred and Ginger's best dances. "I Used to be Colorblind" really shows off Ginger's natural grace and musical style in dancing, and "Change Partners" is damn sexy. Thanks for making this vid, I love seeing other Astaire/Rogers fans on YouTube!

Fantastic. Really wonderful job as always, Claudine!! :)
Tosha, what are you doing?
I don't know what it is about Fred Astaire but I find myself smiling everytime I watch him dance. Whether alone or with a partner, he just had that "thing."
