Scott recorded the chart-topping hit "Hey, Girl" and went on to chart a string of other Billboard Hot 100 singles between 1963 and 1971. His 1968 effort "(You) Got What I Need" was sampled for the 1989 Biz Markie hit, "Just a Friend". It was also sampled for Ghostface Killah's "Save Me Dear" in 2004.
Scott later hit the oldies circuit, and then released two new albums in the 1990s, one in 2001, and one in 2004. He also was a contributor to Van Morrison's "Vanthology" album released in 2003.
Cry To Me

And nobody calls you on the phone
Don't you feel like cryin'?
Don't you feel like cryin'?
Come on baby, cry to me
When you're all alone in your lonely room
And there is nothing, but the smell of her perfume
Don't you feel like cryin'?
Come on baby, cry to me
Nothing can be sadder than a glass of wine alone
Loneliness, loneliness, just a, a waste of your time
But your won't ever have to walk alone
Say honey, just breakdown, breakdown and cry
When you're waiting in your lonely room
And there's nothin' but the smell of her perfume
Don't you feel like cryin'?
Don't you feel like cryin'?
Come on baby, cry to me
Come on baby, cry to me
Come on baby, cry, cry, cry, cry
The lyrics to Freddie Scott's song Cry To Me explore the emotions one feels when they are left alone after a breakup. The song describes the feeling of loneliness and sadness that comes with missing someone so deeply that the sound of their voice or the scent of their perfume is all that remains. The lines "When your baby leaves you all alone, And nobody calls you on the phone," sets the tone for the rest of the song, conveying the desperation and emptiness that one feels when they are left with nothing but their own thoughts.
The chorus of the song, "Don't you feel like cryin'? Come on baby, cry to me," serves as an invitation to the listener to release their emotions and cry their heart out. The song reassures the listener that they are not alone, that others have gone through the same thing, and offers a hopeful message that it's okay to cry and feel the pain before moving on.
Overall, the lyrics of Cry To Me capture the essence of heartbreak and the raw emotions that come with it. The song offers a comforting message to those who have experienced heartbreak, encouraging them to feel their emotions and start the healing process.

To walk alone, oh, you see
Oh, come on, take my hand
And, baby, won't you
Walk with me, oh, yeah
When you're waiting
For a voice to come
In the night and
There is no one
Don't you feel like crying (cry to me)
Don't you feel like crying (cry to me)
Ah don't you feel like
A c-c-c-cry (cry to me)
C-c-c-c-c-crying (cry to me)...

I have to question Richard Smith on Solomon Burke having recorded the original of “Cry, Baby”, the date 1962 attached to it notwithstanding. Maybe the difference is in one using a release date and the other listing a recorded date.
The Wikipedia page for the song lists Garnet Mimms and The Enchanters as recording the song first in 1963. It became Mimms’ best known song. He’s another underappreciated artist—and apparently still around at age 85.
Either way though, here’s another great version for you all to enjoy:

Janis Joplin (with the Full Tilt Boogie Band) killed the song in 1970. She released it as a single with her famous a capppella “Mercedes Benz” on the flip side.
They’re both great, but if I have to pick a favorite—it’s Janis, hands down:

And props to two men, Bert Berns and Jerry Ragovoy, who wrote such a great song.
I look forward to listening to all the other versions you all have listed.

This was recorded just days after Freddie's twin sister died. According to Joel Selvin, tears streamed down Freddie's face as he sang this in the studio

Wow had no idea. I love this version and Solomon Burke’s version but this guy sung from his soul!

A great catalogue of music.
I'd be surprised if some of his music didn't slip out in Oz in the '60s.
