Their primary stage instruments are a pair of keytars, with some songs involving a guitar or drum synth. They formed in Boston, Massachusetts in 1999.
In mid-2009 Kasson Crooker (aka Symbion Project) left the band due to time conflicts.
They have gained a number of fans through their work in video games, and several of their songs can be found on titles such as FreQuency, Amplitude, Karaoke Revolution, Guitar Hero, Rock Band, Downhill Domination, Neon FM: Dance Radio, and Phase (similar to Guitar Hero, for iPod) along with many of the North American entries in the Dance Dance Revolution series. Many of these games were developed by Harmonix, a developer for which Kasson Crooker is the Audio Director.
Originally, their music was entirely composed on a small portable midi sequencer, a Yamaha QY-70, often mistaken for a Game Boy. On more recent albums, they have expanded their toolkit due to a lack of variety in the sounds the QY-70 provided, but it still remains an important part of the composing process.
House Of Mirrors
Freezepop Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
I take in your familiar face
now the truth is very clear to see
what makes you you, makes me me
We got so scared in the house of mirrors
the image looking back moved on
now the truth is very clear to see
Now the truth is clear to see
we're everything I want to be
you recognise my eyes and you'll agree
what makes you you, makes me me
The Freezepop song "House of Mirrors" explores the concept of identity and self-awareness. The opening line sets the tone for the rest of the song as it describes a moment when the singer looks in the mirror and does not recognize themselves. This particular situation highlights a common fear that people have: that they may not truly know who they are or what makes them unique. However, in the following lines, the singer encounters somebody they know and care about, and seeing this person's familiar face helps them realize that their sense of self is still intact.
This recognition gives them the courage to navigate through what the song refers to as a "house of mirrors." A house of mirrors is a funhouse attraction where mirrors reflect distorted images that can deceive or confuse the viewer. This metaphorical house of mirrors represents the many societal and cultural constructs that people use to shape their sense of identity. The singer experiences fear and anxiety while attempting to navigate through these constructs, but ultimately they come to the realization that what makes them unique is what connects them to others. The song concludes with the message that "what makes you you, makes me me," emphasizing the importance of individuality and diversity in building meaningful relationships.

Easily my favorite song from the album, and possibly the only one I really like. Rather disappointing.
