Blackout
Freya Ridings Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

If you would've just let me in
Who knows what could've been?
They tell me to forget, but I don't want to
Your face is all I seem to see

How can I blackout you?

Don't wanna hear my friends say
"Girl, you are better off anyway"
'Cause I know that's not true, I want you
I wanted you to be the one who stayed

How can I blackout you, you, you?
How can I blackout you?
How can I blackout you?

Pins and needles in my lips
No anaesthetic could make me numb to you

How can I blackout you?
You, it's you, it's you
How can I blackout you, you, you?
How can I blackout you, ooh, you?
How can I blackout you, ooh, you?

It's always been you

Overall Meaning

The lyrics of Freya Ridings’s song “Blackout” is a reflection of the singer’s struggle of moving on from someone she deeply cared for. The song begins with a confession from the singer that the person they are addressing didn't allow them into their life, and they are now aware that they missed out on a beautiful relationship. The singer is unable to let go of the past and finds herself reminiscing about the time spent with this person. She struggles to understand why she can't forget this person, after all, they didn't give her a chance.

The second verse provides insight into the singer's current emotions. She is aware that her friends have been telling her to move on and forget the person, but she can't. She longs for a chance with this person, and she wished that they had stayed. The pre-chorus uses an interesting metaphor of “pins and needles in my lips, No anaesthetic could make me numb to you," to describe her inability to forget about this person. In the chorus, the singer questions how it is possible to forget about the person she had strong feelings for.

In conclusion, "Blackout" is an emotional expression of regret, love, and heartache that come with trying to move on from someone you love deeply. It showcases how hard it can be to leave behind a situation that you know is not the best, but you hold onto it anyway. The lyrics offer a relatable perspective to anyone who has been in a situation where they struggled to let go of past feelings.

I heard this song while making dinner and watching “Legacies” a while back. I cried in my food damn it! This song touched my soul, your voice is amazing. These words spoke to how I felt about someone. He recently came back into my life and I’m not sure how to take it.....this song came on again tonight while watching “Legacies” again. I still wish I could blackout you sometimes ☹️
