A Place For Us
Friends Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
We destroy it
Life has lost its value
We dug our own grave.
There's another maze out here
There are more lies in the air
Every exit has a wall
I'm affraid.
The night
The day
All these things have been changed.
Lonely world
Betrayed world
It once was my friend
But now I try to find
A New World For Us.
The lyrics to Friends' song "A Place For Us" delve into the concept of societal destruction and the loss of value in life. The opening lines, "Remains of a wonderworld, We destroy it, Life has lost its value, We dug our own grave," point to the idea that humanity has damaged the once beautiful world we lived in. The phrase "Remains of a wonderworld" suggests that what is left of our world is merely fragments or remnants, indicating the extent of the destruction caused by human actions. The lyrics hint at the consequences of our actions, emphasizing that life no longer holds the same worth it once did and that we are ultimately responsible for our own downfall.
The next stanza introduces the idea of another maze, symbolizing the complexities and challenges present in society. The line "Every exit has a wall, Called intolerance, I'm afraid" highlights the barriers and divisions created by intolerance. It reflects the fear and uncertainty that arise within individuals when confronted with these walls or obstacles. The lyrics further emphasize the theme of change, expressing how both the night and the day have been altered. This suggests that the world and its dynamics have drastically shifted, leaving behind a sense of loneliness and betrayal.
Overall, the lyrics depict a world that has been damaged irreparably by humanity's actions. They raise awareness about the consequences of our destructive behaviors and the need to strive for a new world characterized by unity and understanding.

She is hands-down one of the most talented people to ever come out of American Idol. She has control, power, perfect pitch, and an incredible sense of expression and dynamics. Of course, it helps that she's singing one of the most beautiful songs ever written. I love this video.
