But you weren't there
Life's never fair
It's never fair
But I still feel you
With each breath of air
You're everywhere
You're everywhere
Time fills each hole
But it's not so
No it's not so
My father gave me
His words of gold
I let them go
I let them go
Now I've been shuttered
By long gone days
But I can't stay
No I can't stay
If I could hold you
I know you'd say
It's all ok
But it's not ok
So tell my mother
That I'll be fine
To ease her mind
To ease her mind
And tell my father
It's not a crime
To weep this time
To weep this time
(To weep this time)
(To weep this time)
The lyrics of Friends' song "Everywhere" reflect a sense of longing and loss. The singer expresses a deep desire to be reunited with someone who is no longer present, perhaps a lost love or a departed friend. The opening lines convey the emptiness and disappointment the singer feels when trying to reach out for this person, only to find them absent. The repetition of the line "Life's never fair, it's never fair" emphasizes the unfairness and unpredictability of life.
Despite the absence, the singer still feels the presence of this person everywhere. Each breath of air reminds them of their lost connection, keeping their memory alive. It's a bittersweet realization that even though the person is physically gone, their impact and essence still linger.
The following verses suggest that the singer seeks solace and wisdom from their parents. However, the advice given by both their mother and father doesn't provide the comfort or resolution they are seeking. The line "I let them go" implies that the singer has possibly disregarded or dismissed their parents' advice in their search for solace.
The second half of the song reveals the emotional turmoil the singer is experiencing. They confess to being haunted by past memories, yet unable to remain stuck in that place. The desire to hold onto the person is juxtaposed with the understanding that it's not okay to do so. The final lines relay a message to their parents, assuring them that they will be fine and it's okay to express their emotions in this time of grief.
Overall, "Everywhere" is a poignant reflection on the longing for a lost connection and the struggle to find solace in the face of absence.

I turned to hold you
I sought comfort in your presence
But you weren't there
But unfortunately, you were not present
Life's never fair
The nature of life is unjust
It's never fair
It is persistently unjust
But I still feel you
Nevertheless, I sense your existence
With each breath of air
With the inhalation and exhalation I take
You're everywhere
Your presence surrounds me
You're everywhere
Your influence is all-encompassing
My mother told me
My maternal figure advised me
Time fills each hole
The passing of time heals emotional gaps
But it's not so
However, this is not the case
No it's not so
No, it is not the reality
My father gave me
My paternal figure bestowed upon me
His words of gold
His precious words of wisdom
I let them go
I relinquished their hold on me
I let them go
I released their influence on me
Now I've been shuttered
Now I've been confined within myself
By long gone days
Due to past times that are no longer present
But I can't stay
Yet, I cannot remain in this state
No I can't stay
No, I cannot continue to exist like this
If I could hold you
If I could embrace you
I know you'd say
I am aware that you would express
It's all ok
That everything will be fine
But it's not ok
However, things are not acceptable
So tell my mother
Therefore, inform my mother
That I'll be fine
That I will be all right
To ease her mind
To alleviate her worries
To ease her mind
To bring peace to her thoughts
And tell my father
Also, relay to my father
It's not a crime
Express that it is not a wrongdoing
To weep this time
To shed tears during this period
To weep this time
To cry during this instance
