In any event it comes across as victim blaming. I see it as a form of compartmentalization of infidelity used to give the cheater(s) a free pass. Nobody is perfect. I agree with you but to a lesser extent. Cheating should be a dealbreaker and people should take it seriously and be extremely upset about it when it happens. And we shouldn't discount it as a bad thing because certain things are worse. It's a violation of trust and it really hurts someone. But some people are now saying cheating is abuse. I don't think that's really true. A lot of abusers cheat on their partners and do it repeatedly. I think in those cases it counts but I don't think it should be thrown into the abuse category.

She made it sound like men are animals. A human being can choose to not let a fleeting thought dictate their actions, especially if they are capable of commitments and conscious decisions. There are people who choose to be celibate. And lot of these participants also say they wouldn't date someone they don't find physically attractive.

I find it as silly as glazing over the fact that marriage vows include you being faithful to your partner. Cheating and breaking your partner's trust is already breaking that vow. People who dismiss it as an unavoidable carnal action probably aren't suited or ready for marriage, as they have commitment issues. I agree with communicating the problems in a relationship to solve them but both people should commit and make efforts to nurture the relationship. Cheating is already against that.

i feel like many people (not all) who push for poly relationships and say no to men and women being able to be friends are just unable of committing to one person because they "want" more than one person can realistically provide for them. a lot of people have no self-control and want every possibility to be available to them. a committed monogamous relationship is a representation of you being able to fully accept and be satisfied with this sole person, even if they have shortcomings and flaws. it means loving them enough to sacrifice all of these other "potential partners" because you care more about this person; that the things you don't or can't have with them don't matter as much as what you do have with them.

I think cheating being the worst thing your partner could do is a personal thing for each person. I've never been cheated on to my knowledge, so I'm not as concerned by it, and I think my relationship would recover because I've seen other people's relationships recover from it. I personally think emotional or physical abuse are far worse. Those seem a lot harder to recover from I would imagine. How do you trust someone that has emotionally manipulated you, even if they didn't know they were doing it? But again, I think it all depends on your experiences.

I totally agree. Especially since fear of abandonment/cheating is way way stronger for people with an anxious attachment style, which comes from their childhood.

Someone who is very securely attached and doesn’t constantly fear abandonment just isn’t that worried about cheating. I’m securely attached, and I would HATE it if my husband cheated on me, but I also know that I could move on and be healthy and have a happy life if it came to that. I’m secure enough in myself to not be terrified of that all the time. But someone with an anxious attachment certainly would be.

When it came to the cheating question, you could see how life experience changes your perspective over time. If I was still in my 20's, I would've strongly agreed, now that I'm in my 30's, I don't necessarily think it's the worst thing my partner could do to me, yeah it would hurt and my trust in them would be compromised, but more than anything, it would reveal flaws in the relationship and whether or not those flaws are worth repairing, especially if kids are involved. If it's not it's worth repairing, I'd move on and a part of me would almost thank them for not wasting any more of my time that could be spent in a more promising relationship

When it comes to men and women just being friends it's a very nuanced topic I think it just depends on the person and the relationship that they're in and dynamics. For example me and my ex- girlfriend broke up (mutually) because she didn't want me to meet her friends and most of her friends were males, in that instance it is not healthy in a relationship. But if she did allow me to meet her male friends, I think that would be okay and I would have no problem with her being just friends with men. Men and women can be friends as long as there are reason for them not being more.

Not being attracted is a reason, religion is a reason, already being in a relationship is a reason etc. A barrier has to exist.

Cos honestly if you like someone enough to be a close friend and you’re attracted to each other then why are you not just dating?

My rule of thumb is: I’m not actively looking for a relationship with my female friends but, if the opportunity came up and we are both down then I would.

There are some friends that are absolutely off limits there are some that I see as sisters.

“Relationships get worse not better” is incredibly untrue. I’ve been in a relationship for 6 years and never felt that way. Things are hard sometimes but the more I get to know him the more I have to love, and it’s always getting better over time.
