Crooked Head
Fucked Up Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Living like a stone in a river,
All alone, peaceful at the bottom,
While the rest fight not to drown,
Sitting while the current of the stream passes me by,
Forget about the fighting and the flow as I empty my mind

Living like a fossil,
Still from the torrent of time in a broken world,
Still a stone at the end of the line
My trajectory is so true they float away and I don't move

Crooked head pulling at the end of a rope, waiting for a sign
Swimming through the flood, so afraid because there is so little time.
Always running, always searching, always making it a race,
So detached like a leaf, never fixed to life in one place,
Getting lost in the shuffle makes you feel so small.

Fight against the swell just to throw yourself at the wall,
They're all dogs, fighting over the bone.

I'm gonna live, I'm gonna leave it alone
Crooked head

Overall Meaning

in a straight line, waiting for a sign.

The lyrics of Fucked Up's song "Crooked Head" describe the feelings of detachment and isolation that the singer experiences as they watch the world bicker and struggle with one another while they remain stationary. The first verse sets the scene with imagery of a stone in a river, which represents the singer's stillness while the rest of the world fights the current. The second verse speaks to the singer's sense of being out of sync with the world and their feeling of being a relic from a different era, unable to move with the times. The chorus speaks to the singer's desire for guidance and direction, yet their fear of the finite nature of life.

The song seems to be a commentary on the feeling of being an outsider in a constantly moving world. By using images of water and stone, the lyrics create a sense of contrast between the chaos of the world and the stillness of the singer. The use of the "crooked head" metaphor speaks to a sense of being off-balance, of struggling to find one's footing in the midst of the world's turmoil.

Damian (lead singer) is a goddamn prince. After an SF show, he stayed behind and talked to and hugged and thanked EVERY kid that stayed behind (myself included) and there was at least 75 people there. Class act. Nicest guy in punk and the band KILLED it onstage that night.

Loving this album and falling in love with this band. Reminds me of 'Poison Idea' mixed with indie-rock.
