Grey
Fudge Tunnel Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Been there one time
Wish you′d probably make it stop
Someday, whenever
Doesn't it mind you, what you are?

I am grey
I′m a disgrace
You know a little thing?
I'm a disgrace

Not too sure
What could make it more clear
This thing's personal
So I said this before

I am grey
I′m a disgrace
You know a little thing?
I′m a disgrace
I am grey
I'm a disgrace
I am grey
I′m a disgrace

Well, you're living long
Not so edible
Ignore what I said
Doesn′t matter anymore

I am grey
I'm a disgrace
You know a little thing?
I′m a disgrace
I am grеy
I'm a disgrace
I am grey
I'm a disgrace

I am grеy
I′m a disgrace
I am grey
I′m a disgrace

Grey!
Grey!
Grey!
Grey!
Grey!
Grey!
Grey!
Grey!
Grey, grey, grey, grey!
Grey, grey, grey, grey!
Grey, grey, grey, grey!
Grey, grey, grey, grey!
Grey, grey, grey, grey!

Grey, grey, grey, grey!
Grey, grey, greeeeey!

Overall Meaning

The lyrics to Fudge Tunnel's song "Grey" seem to be a reflection on the singer's unworthiness and irrelevancy in the grand scheme of things. The repeated use of the word "disgrace" suggests a deep-seated feeling of shame and guilt, perhaps from past mistakes or failings. The mention of "this thing's personal" implies that whatever is causing this sense of inadequacy is deeply rooted in the singer's personal life.

The line "Doesn't it mind you, what you are?" can be interpreted as the singer questioning their own worth and purpose in life. The repeated use of "I am grey" reinforces the idea that the singer feels dull and insignificant. The phrase "not so edible" suggests that the singer is somehow tainted or undesirable.

The chorus, consisting only of the phrase "I am grey, I'm a disgrace," is a stark reminder of the singer's self-loathing. The repetition of the phrase serves to drive home the point that the singer cannot escape their own negative self-image.

Overall, the song paints a bleak picture of a person struggling with their own sense of worthlessness and despair.

Discovering bad-ass bands back then was like discovering treasure each time- you had to know someone in the know or keep an ear to the ground, see the band live by chance , hear them on someone's mix tape, home stereo, or on late-late night tv (for their one or two video plays) and then spend the time and money to head out and find the physical album (or dub it off a friend). It made you appreciate the hell out of bands. I used to ride my bike several towns away to hit the local record store to buy stuff like this very album. Saw them live on this tour too.

I had a mate like that, constant source of new music that I would have no idea existed otherwise. He didn't play an instrument like a some of us did but I always said he played the Ears. He just had great taste and a good sense for quality bands.

It was the best feeling when you put someone on a band you really loved and they became a huge fan too and started turning other people on. It was one of life’s simplest pleasures.
