History
The group appeared on several German compilations and, in 1996, released their debut album Thanks for Nothing. Following the release of two limited edition EPs (Words of Power and Take Care), Funker Vogt signed with the American record label Metropolis Records. Metropolis re-released Thanks for Nothing, followed by the We Came to Kill in late 1997.[1] Kästel and Thomas have participated, as remixers, on Leæther Strip album Yes, I'm Limited, Vol. 2. In 2000, Funker Vogt released Maschine Zeit, followed by the remix EP T in early 2001.[1] Additionally to the core members of the band, concert members also include Björn Böttcher (keyboard) and Frank Schweigert (guitar, he replaced Thomas Kroll in 2004). Kai Schmidt writes most of the lyrics and manages the band through his own management company.[2] They all hail from the town of Hamelin in Germany. The majority of their lyrics revolve around the concepts of war.
A distinctive theme is present in the band's work and stage presence; both their musicianship and their costuming are strongly reminiscent of military music and dress.[3] This military aesthetic is also popular with the band's fanbase. However, the political stance of Funker Vogt is decidedly anti-war; the band cites "war and social injustice" as their primary topics of discussion, noting that the goal of the album Execution Tracks, along with the accompanying video, was to "present the grotesque cruelties and the tragedy of war."
According to the band's website, as of 2011 both Björn Böttcher and Kai Schmidt are no longer collaborating with the band. As a result, Funker Vogt will no longer be managed by REPOMANagement.[4] In 2013, longtime frontman Jens Kästel left the band after his last show on 30 November in Berlin.[5] Four years later in 2017 Funker Vogt reform with a new singer, Chris L. (Agonoize/The Sexorcist).

Funker Vogt Lyrics

Du ertrinkst in deiner Furcht
Das Blut an deinen Händen
Lässt dich nie wieder los
So schnell war es geschehen
Doch wars dir nie bewusst
Du wolltest nicht verstehen
Es hält dich fest, ein Leben lang
Du läufst zwar los, doch kommst nie an
Kennst selber keine Grenzen
Mit der Waffe in der Hand
Es hält dich fest, ein Leben lang
Du läufst zwar los, doch kommst nie an
Die Zeit zieht einfach so vorbei
Kommando los und Feuer frei
Du glaubst, du hast es in der Hand
Am Ende raubt s dir den Verstand
Das Leben zieht an Dir vorbei
Kommando los...Feuer frei
Feuer frei!
Feuer frei!
The lyrics to Funker Vogt's song "Desperado" paint a vivid and dark picture of a person consumed by violence and the consequences of their actions. The opening lines, "Das Töten hat kein Ende, Du ertrinkst in deiner Furcht," speak to the endless cycle of killing and the haunting fear that grips the singer. The imagery of blood on their hands symbolizes the guilt and remorse that will never leave them.
The sudden realization of the violence committed, expressed in "So schnell war es geschehen, Doch wars dir nie bewusst," highlights the disconnect between the act and the awareness of its implications. The singer is portrayed as someone who refuses to acknowledge or understand the gravity of their actions until it is too late. The idea of being targeted and shot conveys a sense of inevitability and fate.
The lyrics further explore the idea of being trapped by one's past, as seen in "Es hält dich fest, ein Leben lang, Du läufst zwar los, doch kommst nie an." This sense of being stuck in a never-ending cycle of violence and regret is a central theme in the song. The repetition of "Kommando los und Feuer frei" serves as a stark and commanding reminder of the destructive patterns that the singer is caught up in.
The chorus, with its powerful repetition of "Du glaubst, du hast es in der Hand, Am Ende raubt s dir den Verstand," delves into the delusion of control and the ultimate loss of sanity that results from a life consumed by violence. The mention of a predetermined goal and the rejection of independent thought reinforce the idea of being trapped in a violent and oppressive system. The repeated chants of "Feuer frei!" further emphasize the destructive and unchecked nature of the singer's actions.
