Black Sally
Funkoars Lyrics

[Verse 1 - Sesta]
Rocked up without an invite, crashed the planet.
Shock in a host but, happen to manage.
And I'll be taking advantage and leaving a little something like becomin' an ex of a midget,
Listen, I ain't here to impress you or the misled,
Quit tearin' at your wrist for shit the chick said,
You know she know nothin'.
And I ain't here to discuss it, but I know she ain't bluffin' Black Sally the baddest,
You don't romance with her hold hands with it,
She cold, she plan nothin' but you're downfall, (Oh)
And you do it again, and if it ain't enough this time she's bringin' two of her friends, (Yeah)
Now we sit in agreement and if you keep it a secret
But you tell us all, "you snitch and I'm leavin'".
Yeah, Man, would have thought on a planet of lies
Under the ground for the love, for the pride, then you gone.

[Chorus]
Black Sally's comin' down to get ya, It won't be long.
Black Sally's gonna hold on tight, And she's oh so strong.
Black Sally's comin' down to get ya, It won't be long.
Black Sally's gonna hold on tight, And she's oh so strong.
Nothin' you can do.

[Verse 2 - Trials]
Hey, you messed up right, havin' trouble standin' upright,
Pulled over dancin' to the siren like they clublights, (Sally)
You keep doin' me wrong back, back when Kirsty Alley used to be hot.
It's not about a woman's (---Missing Lyrics---),
I caught you lookin' at me for the wrong reason like a Woman's sport,
What you want I can't give it,
Listen, liquor my love,
So many, pictures of you, so very, little of us. (Ha)
(Sally) Listen up, God Damn your body bangin'
Boy meets girl in a second she body bag 'em.
Hook line and sinker, That's why I drink 'er,
Warm in the winter, Warning you in for.

[Intermission]
Black Sally she the girl of my dreams, (Ha)
Black Sally she there whenever I need her,
Black Sally three-seventy-five,
Black Sally, seven fifty, plenty of time. (Ugh)

[Verse 3 - Hons]
Now you say that we can work it out, but yo I doubt it girl,
Wakin' next to you only makes me wanna power-hurl,
I built a tolerance over the years to your moods but,
I can't take no more I need to divorce you.
Now you've gone and made me raise my voice again, Sally,
We never alone it's always you and your annoying friends.
When we met you were bubbly,
But over time you turned flat and needed warming up to touch me,
That night with Charlese was a one-time fling
Plus you always naggin' me, "I need to try new things",
Yo, my human instinct tells me that you're the best Sally,
Your head and body lift my mood like a pep rally.
We've got a love-hate relationship
Love the way you keep me high-spirit, but hate the fact you made of it,
Girl you're my flavour, my number one saviour
Got me countin' down the seconds 'til the next time I taste you.

[Outro]
(Break it down like this)
Black Sally's comin' down to get ya, (Black Sally)
Black Sally's gonna hold on tight, And she's oh so wrong.
(Break it down)
Black Sally's comin' down to get ya, (Black Sally)
Black Sally's gonna hold on tight, And she's oh so wrong. (Black Sally)
Black Sally's comin' down to get ya, It won't be long.
Black Sally's gonna hold on tight, And she's oh so wrong.
Black Sally's comin' down to get ya, It won't be long.

Black Sally's gonna hold on tight, And she's oh so wrong.
Nothin' you can do.

Overall Meaning

The lyrics to Funkoars' song Black Sally describes the destructive power of a toxic relationship. The song is essentially a cautionary tale to those who continue to pursue an unhealthy relationship. The singer in the song, Black Sally, is described as someone who will ultimately bring a person down with her, no matter how hard they try to resist her. The lyrics quite vividly describes the singer's plight, and how she drags her lovers down with her without a moment's hesitation.

In the first verse of the song, the singer is portrayed as someone who is cold and devastating. The lines "She cold, she plan nothin' but you're downfall" depicts her as an evil mastermind who only wants to destroy the person she's with. The chorus reiterates the fact that Black Sally is coming for the person, and there's nothing they can do to stop it. The intermission suggests that despite everything, the singer is still in love with Black Sally.

In the second verse, the singer presents his own struggles with Black Sally. He is caught in a cycle of drinking because of her, and he can't let go of the relationship, despite its obvious toxicity. The third verse continues the same theme, with the singer struggling between his love and hatred for Black Sally. The outro is an almost desperate plea for help as the singer realizes that Black Sally is about to bring him down.

My dad played the bass guitar in this original song. he rocks!!

@MouldySponge

They encapsulate the highs and lows of alcohol addiciton so well in their lyrics and in this video. They made a career (lol if you can call it that) off lighthearted songs glorifying alcohol, so it's sobering (haha) to hear them being serious and honest enough to make a song like this to go with it.

Plus the Hilltop Hoods and Funkoars (and Briggs, Vents, and Ad-Fu) are all on the same label because they all love making the music they make. They respect each other as artists and create beautiful vibes together. If someone has hate for the Hilltop Hoods you might as well be insulting the Funkoars because they are creative partners. I love all the acts that the Golden Era brings and look forward to more.

I 1st met Maurice back in '69 upstairs at grandpas when it changed from the bopeep downstairs, from memory. peg leg introduced me to him when I was under his wing. those were the days. ran into him again when I moved in next door to him on dominion rd around '80-81. he tuned my kit and gave it a walloping the likes of which its never seen since. greatest stand up ever and just as good seated. good on ya Maurice and I'm still listening to jeff. And I remember being on the back shelf of the "E" type and flying over the harbour bridge to the Milford ?
