I need my own self
Own self
Told you I need you more than
I need my own self
Own self
Memories
Wondering if you remember me
Fuck them other niggas they not on my pedigree
Let me be the one to channel all your energy
Babe this shit is real I’m in the hills like beverly
Got me way in the clouds
I been so high ‘cause I been so down
Let's freeze this time
Let's slow it down
You never act shy when no ones around
Told you I need you more than
I need my own self
Own self
Told you I need you more than
I need my own self
Own self
Told you I need you more than
I need my own self
Own self
Told you I need you more than
I need my own self
Own self
Lay your head down
Meet me in the middle
Tell me if you there now
Shorty is clear now
Can I clear your fears now
Can I make them insecurities disappear now
Disappear now
Oh babe
Let me tell you what you really wanna know babe
I would never fold babe
They tryna’ steal your heart ‘cause you got a heart of gold baby
Heart of gold baby
They tryna’ steal your heart ‘cause you got a heart of gold baby
In this song, G-Eazy expresses his need for a particular someone more than he needs himself. He emphasizes his emotional vulnerability and how he cannot fathom the thought of being without this person. Memories of their time together constantly flood his mind, making him wonder if they still remember each other. He disregards other men vying for his love interest's attention as they are not on his pedigree. He wants to be the one to channel all the person's energy and make them feel alive. G-Eazy finds solace on the hills of Beverly, earning him an otherworldly feeling caused by his past lows. He savors his present moments with the person, never acting shy when no one else is around, and slowing down time to fully appreciate their time together.
The song's catchy beat and lyrics make it a fan favorite among G-Eazy's fans. It serves as an interlude between other tracks on his album. Fans have interpreted the song as a message to Halsey, who openly dated G-Eazy before their breakup. The song's meaning is deepened by its contrast with other tracks on the album that explore romantic and sexual relationships with various people. The song does not follow that format, making it stand out on the album. The song is only two minutes long, but G-Eazy packs a lot of emotion into its lyrics that connects with his audience. He uses his platform to comment on mental health and self-love issues, proving his relevance to his fan base.
