Guilty
G.A.S. Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
Are you waiting to be found?
Do you think that you'd be happier
With no one else around?
Are you hiding?
Will the trial never come?
Baby, I've got news-
Behind iron lock and key?
Have you buried all the evidence of
What you used to be?
Has the question
Become darker than the answer?
Baby, I've got news-
In G.A.S.'s song Guilty, the lyrics are questioning someone's sense of guilt and their fear of being caught. The lyrics have a deep, introspective meaning which speaks to a person's innermost thoughts and fears. The first verse, "Are you guilty? Are you waiting to be found?" suggests that the person in question has committed some sort of wrong and is waiting for someone to catch them. They are plagued with the fear of being found out and the repercussions that come with it. The second verse, "Do you think that you'd be happier with no one else around?" suggests that the person feels lonely and isolated but believes that they would feel more comfortable if nobody else was around to see or judge them. The chorus, "Are you hiding? Will the trial never come? Baby, I've got news-" is a direct call-out to the person being questioned. The singer suggests that they know something that the person in question is trying to hide and that eventually they will be caught. The bridge, "Is the truth trapped behind iron lock and key? Have you buried all the evidence of what you used to be? Has the question become darker than the answer?" is a metaphor for the person's internal struggle. They have locked away their true self and buried their past, which has caused their inner turmoil to become even more complex and difficult to understand.
