Overall Meaning

The lyrics to GACKT's song "Etude" express the pain of lost love and the ache of longing to hear that love's voice again. With bowed heads, the singer reminisces about the person who has become nothing but a memory, even though they are forever etched in their mind's eye. In the opening lines, the singer admits to having been searching for words of comfort, but instead has become lost in feelings of sadness and loneliness.
