The Label name relates to my Grandad’s amature radio call sign.

He used to have a little room where he would tune in and communicate with people as far away as Russia. This was at a time before the internet was widely available so all his communication was processed in Morse. When I would stay over I would awaken in the night hearing bleeps, Morse code and synthetic waves emitting from his room full of oscillators, amplifiers and early computers.

So when I started to gain interest in electronic music and starting a label his signal ID instantly sprung to mind as a name.

Hey Kevin! Thanks for all the tutorials. I am interested in learning how to record using my monitor/desktop/or windows as a background. I am a teacher, but want to elevate my students' and families' experiences as I record or present over slide shows or any other program. This was so extremely well-done. So clear. So easy to follow. Thank you!!! I spent a very long time today trying out different free screen recording options, each one having issues. Panopto was clunky to learn then when I finally got it, I did a test video and the playback showed frozen screen for a lot of it. Bandicam wouldn't finish downloading even though it says my laptop is compatible. I downloaded Ezvid and it gave me something called PDF Hub - huh? Flashback Express my laptop wouldn't install. Debut is for non-commercial use only so didn't try it. Others I didn't try because they have such short time limit or are just a temporary free trial or other dealbreakers. I kept hearing OBS is the best yet is a steep learning curve. I watched this video and easily followed the whole thing. I'm not intimidated to try it now. Thanks again!!!!!

Excellent tutorial, thanks. You're a great teacher. The gold standard for absolute beginners new to OBS, and this is how all beginner tutorials should be presented. Other OBS tutorials on Youtube - supposedly for beginners - just assume we already know what OBS is for, how it works, and what we're doing. Kinda silly to go on about streaming and social media before we've even learned the basics.

I've noticed the quality of my recorded videos seems to be really "pixely" no matter what I do (even if I use a really high quality image or background, even just recording the desktop comes out super pixelated).

I can tell from your videos that high quality non-pixelated is obviously possible...
Any ideas how to troubleshoot and fix this? TIA! :)

@Jobsfan2 YT - OBS has been around for 10 years. I have been following it for at least 4 years, and I know lots of streamers who use OBS. You could pay hundreds to a couple thousand dollars to buy something else, IF you want to.

As usual he is fantastic. Includes so much of information in one video. May be for the sake of this, he avoids the speech modulation which makes it just a bit on the verge of boredom. However, credit goes to him that the technical information that he includes are of such great quality, one remains stuck to the video till last. Kevin, I'm an EE and SW engineer and always wanted to do video editing, but really I had something like this, powerful and studio-like in mind. I actually used a Youtube tutorial on how to record video and audio for free with just windows. In all fairness the instructor briefly mentioned that it is way too complex for most people. I needed to mix several video sources Screen, Biology microscope camera, videoscope camera, and my face cam, and being old school thought that would require a lot of video mixing, expensive hardware, etc...
Wow! This well-polished beginner tutorial was a wonderful surprise! Very logical product. It replaces racks of $$$ studio equipment.
And the best part is that it's open (free, though I'll donate). Thank you. This is indeed a great era to be born in!

Great tutorial. I set OBS up on Windows 10. After a period of time, the left/right audio channels were not in synch causing an echo. Initially it seemed to be because of using a hotkey to start recordings, but nothing seemed to fix it. The only solution seemed to be close the program down and then reopen it. Strange

Thanks for doing this tutorial. Yours was the only one I found that I could follow. I am an old Lady and don't grasp this stuff as quickly or easily as you younger people as it is all new to me. I may have had to stop and start your video as I did the steps with you in my OBS , but you were easy enough to follow . At one point I some how opened an Aux Mic and it caused a horrible echo I tried to remove it and it would return...don't know what I am doing there so I just muted it...lol Anyway thank you sooooo much. You have a great voice for these tutorials... others I tried to watch I had to turn them way down...because of certain pitch's in their voice hurt my ears...but with that said my husband says I could hear a gnat fart...lol

this is by far one of the best basic OBS tutorials I've seen. So now when I need to film my desktop to show how to go through all the settings and let's say a dash cam or a GPS now I will have to try to film my monitor with my camcorder. I knew people were doing it and I couldn't figure it out and then I remembered I downloaded obs when my channel became monetized, yet somehow I forgot about it. so thanks for this awesome tutorial there was a few other ones that explained quite a bit but yours was more extensive. thanks again

So no filters with Windows 7. Use Windows 8 or later or Linux.

Hi Kevin, its a really powerful video for people like me who have zero knowledge about how these things work. I
have been experimenting the basic steps and rules but have been running into problems. For ex, I tried remuxing- Under videos files, I selected the file then selected remux- this would open up a window which is asking me to drop or drag the file that needs to be remuxed. Its different from what you showed. Please Advise.
