Tumbling Down
Gabrielle Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Am I not the same as you?
Do I not live as you do?
Do we not work the same land?
Bear the same marks on our hands?
Flesh and blood we're both the same,
Though we go by different names,
Both have families to feed,
Though we see things differently,

We're running out of possibilities,
Running out of time…

When the walls come tumbling down,
And you've lost too much to count,
Will you feel you've won the fight?
When there's no one else in sight?
When the walls come tumbling down?
And there's no one else around,
Will you be on the side of right?
When all you've loved has died…

To your conscience I appeal,
I stand before you, make a deal,
Before we all lose control,
And there's nothing left that's whole,
They say sometimes revenge is sweet,
But where there's loss how can that be?
We are human so we feel,
We are men not made of steel…

We're running out of possibilities,
Running, running out of time…

When the walls come tumbling down,
And you've lost too much to count,
Will you feel you've won the fight?
When there's no one else in sight?
When the walls come tumbling down?
And there's no one else around,
Will you be on the side of right?
When all you've loved has died…

Tumbling down, no-one's around,
Will you be on the side of right?
Tumbling down, no-one's around…

We're running out of possibilities,
Running out of time…

When the walls come tumbling down,
And you've lost too much to count,
Will you feel you've won the fight?
When there's no one else in sight?
When the walls come tumbling down?
And there's no one else around,

Will you be on the side of right?
When all you've loved has died…

Overall Meaning

The song Tumbling Down by Gabrielle is a plea for unity despite differences. The lyrics express the idea that despite living different lives and having different names, we are all the same flesh and blood, and ultimately reliant on the same things. It also touches on the desperation of running out of possibilities and time to make things right. The chorus asks a powerful question, "When the walls come tumbling down, and you've lost too much to count, will you feel you've won the fight?" The walls represent the things that divide us, and the question asks if winning the fight by these means is really a win at all. The song ends with the repetition of the question, "Will you be on the side of right when all you've loved has died?"

Throughout the song, Gabrielle appeals to our humanity, asking us to consider our conscience and to make a deal before it's too late. The lyrics hint at the idea that revenge may not be the answer, especially when there is so much loss. We are asked to consider our feelings but also to try to understand those of others, even if we see things differently.

Overall, Tumbling Down is a call for understanding and unity, asking us to consider what truly matters when the walls around us begin to crumble. It's a reminder that despite our differences, we all share the same vulnerabilities and need for empathy.

Tumbling Down is more about those countries that are in conflict with, like wars.
Gabrielle is telling us that all of us are the same, regardless of from what country we came from, whatever our racial origins were, whatever language we speak.
She was asking, the world leaders who were the masterminds of the chaos between nations, when to stop. Will they stop when it is already too late? When thousands of humanities were already lost by these senseless killings? When no one is left?
She begs to stop these wars between countries before it was too late to perceive.
She was asking if everyone have died, will they have felt that they eon the battle?
In conclusion, this song is all about the wars going on around 5he globe, like now in Israel and Palestine, etc.
Discovered this song last Oct.7,2023 ,when Hama's attacked Israel.
But,I'm Pro Palestine because Israel is taking revenge,Israel is unbecoming now as a country. With thousands of innocent Palestinian died with their bómbings, esp.children and women,I am not going to buy their alibis and being biased.
