Warriors
Gary Numan Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

I fall down
No control somehow
No help now
My favor slides

No one comes here
And now I'm feeding strangers
Thin air, like cold death, like cold death
Like cold death, here in my heart

I fell for so long for you all
I fell for so long for you
I fell for so long for you

Come in, I'm the ghost
Of the white faced clown
She's gone, gone
I won't look back, she's gone

I'm old, so old
This infection of time, my skin, age
Shows no kindness, no kindness
No kindness to me

I fell for so long for you all

I fell for so long for you
I fell for so long for you

Overall Meaning

Gary Numan's song "Warriors" portrays a sense of isolation and loneliness. The lyrics reflect on the singer's downfall and how he has become a stranger in his own world. The opening lines of the song, "I fall down, no control somehow, no help now, my favour slides" suggest that the singer has lost control over his life and is unable to seek help either from others or even from his own self.

The lyrics, "No one comes here, and now I'm feeding strangers, thin air, like cold death, like cold death, like cold death, here in my heart" suggest that the singer is surrounded by strangers as he has lost touch with everyone who was once familiar. The line, "thin air, like cold death" suggests that his life has become devoid of any meaning or purpose, and he feels like he is dying a slow, lonely death.

The chorus "I fell for so long for you all" reflects on the singer's desire to connect with others and feel a sense of belonging. However, despite his efforts, he continues to fall and remain trapped in his isolation. The lines "I'm old, so old, this infection of time, my skin, age, shows no kindness, no kindness, no kindness to me" further emphasize the singer's feeling of being forgotten and abandoned.

Overall, "Warriors" is a powerful reflection on the human condition and how easy it is to lose touch with oneself and others. The lyrics capture the feeling of loneliness and isolation that many people face, and the melancholic music further adds to the emotional impact of the song.

Not only can he write cool music but he races cars and fly's vintage airplanes. Go Gary go!

Nacht Schreck

Underrated, underappreciated album. Every song is great. I love the tribal, organic feel. The densely layered Linn drum + CR78 programming. Great stuff.

David Hefner

Excellent

REG PLASMA

Numan still hates the CR-78 (for programming reasons in the past) , but in my opinion the CR-78 is still the greatest drum machine ever made.

Michael Reid

I wasn't a fan of this album. After the understated style of Paul Gardiner & the excellence of Pino Palladino, I thought Joe Hubbard's bass was just too much. I saw him on this tour at Hammersmith which was my first and it was a good concert but this album is there with Fury and Machine & Soul as rather forgettable.
