No More Lies
Gary Numan / Bill Sharpe Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴

Everything, everything reminds me
Easily, you're walking out so easily
No goodbye's not even a tear for me
Now you cry you'd like to have my company

But I'm not gonna call you again
I'm not gonna pick up the phone
No, I'm not going through it again
You're not gonna leave me alone

No more lies
I don't need this anymore i heard it all
And now I'm gonna close the door seems to me
Nothing comes that easily time to leave
You take it all and run from me

But I'm not gonna call you again
I'm not gonna pick up the phone

No, I'm not going through it again
You're not gonna leave me alone

Overall Meaning

The lyrics of "No More Lies" by Gary Numan and Bill Sharpe convey a strong sense of emotional turmoil and assertiveness in a relationship. The singer is lamenting the ease with which their partner is walking away, without a proper goodbye or any show of genuine emotion. The partner now seems to regret their decision and expresses a desire for the singer's company, but the singer has made up their mind and is determined not to fall back into the same pattern of heartbreak and manipulation.

The repeated refrain of "I'm not gonna call you again, I'm not gonna pick up the phone" highlights the singer's resolve to break free from the toxic cycle of lies and manipulations that have characterized their relationship. The refusal to be drawn back in demonstrates a newfound strength and determination to prioritize their own well-being and mental health. The decision to close the door on the relationship is presented as a necessary step towards personal liberation and emotional healing.

The chorus, with its emphatic declaration of "No more lies, I don't need this anymore, I heard it all," signifies a breaking point where the singer has reached a threshold of tolerance for deceit and emotional manipulation. The realization that they deserve better and that they are unwilling to tolerate being used and discarded any longer is a powerful declaration of self-worth and self-respect. The imagery of closing the door symbolizes a definitive end to the relationship and a stepping stone towards a new beginning.

The lyrics also touch upon the theme of resilience and empowerment, as the singer asserts their agency in choosing not to allow themselves to be dragged back into a toxic relationship. The insistence that "You're not gonna leave me alone" suggests a newfound sense of independence and autonomy, where the singer is no longer willing to be controlled or manipulated by their partner's actions. Overall, "No More Lies" is a poignant anthem of self-empowerment and liberation from toxic relationships, delivered with a sense of strength and conviction.

A very underestimated and unique duo, Gary & Bill deserved more success as the duo Sharpe & Numan !

Very underrated album

DocKnight Philco

really brilliant track by Gary Numan.. was an interesting change of direction from what he was doing at a time - at least these songs had a tune to anything else that came before. But he's def. back on form now with his modern classic Splinter and still as relevant as ever after all these years

This Is Dylan Greenberg

I’ve always loved this album

So happy that I finally got a Numan & Sharpe vinyl, I enjoyed their work as a duo. Gary looked much more free when performing and dancing than in the earlier years. Great video ☺

Amelia Wagus - I'm glad you too like their collaboration. I've been a huge Numan fan from the beginning but I think many of his fans are somewhat ungrateful to Bill, he is one of the kindest people I know (he has put me on his guests lists over the years and fed me a few pints and kebabs!) and he did help Gary a hell of a lot in the 80s, many of Gary's session players like Jackie Rawe, Tessa Niles and Tracey Ackerman were sourced through Shakatak as were engineers like Nick Smith. One has to remember how much Gary was struggling financially back then and he needed the collaboration. Bill's wife, Jill, was my closest colleague for some years and she is absolutely one of my best friends, she and Bill are really good fun although I frustrate him with my refusal to do internet banking! Some Numan fans think there is a bit of a stuffy image with Shakatak but they really are not like that at all.
