Born in the suburb of Santa Mesa in Manila on August 6, 1964, he is the sixth of Vicente Valenciano and Grimilda Santiago Ortiz’s seven children. Santiago Ortiz is a Puerto Rican woman of Italian descent who became a popular opera singer in Manila during the 1960s, and her love for music passed down to her son, Gary. He took his primary and secondary studies in La Salle Greenhills. It was during his high school days, while on a brief stint with the musical group Kundirana, that he devoted himself to music.
Valenciano started performing in 1982 and launched his career in singing and show business on May 13, 1983. He first appeared as a solo in a television show called The Pilita and Jackie Show in 1982, but he was finally noticed after his performances in the TV shows Germspesyal and Penthouse Live. He had his first solo concert, in April 1984, inside the jam-packed Araneta Coliseum. That would be followed by 21 albums, three of them released internationally, including a Christian inspired album called Out of the Dark.
He is married to Maria Anna Elizabeth "Angeli" Evangelista Pangilinan, with whom he has three children: Juan Paolo Martin (a vocalist of the band Salamin), Jose Angelo Gabriel (a dancer), and Kristina Maria Mikaela.
Hang On
Gary Valenciano Lyrics

Sometimes it hurts so bad
To think that we did feel much for each other
Yet lost what we once have
To love you is one thing I can do
I have always been around to love you
I've always wished you're here
And now you're gone and all is gone forever
Oh girl, it's so unfair
Remember the things I always say
I made them all so please believe the things
That I've been telling you
Just hang on
Who knows we might get there
After all the waiting done
We'll be the ones to find out
If we hang on
You know we're on our way
So just hang on
At times when I'm alone I feel so empty
I've always wished you're here
When I look at the sky
I see your memory
That was where I used to be
I love you
I always think of you
Please listen to the words I say
These words that I've been telling you
Just hang on
Who knows we might get there
After all the waiting done
We'll be the ones to find out
If we hang on
Just hang on
Who knows we might get there
After all the waiting done
We'll be the ones to find out
If we hang on
You know we're on our way
So just hang on
If we hang on
In this song, Gary Valenciano talks about how sometimes relationships end, leaving us feeling empty and alone. Despite the pain, he still loves his partner and believes that they should hang on and wait to see if they can get through this difficult time. He remembers the moments they shared, and still feels like he's missing a part of himself without her. However, he hopes that they can find their way back to each other in the end, and that their love will be strong enough to overcome their current struggles. It's a song about holding onto hope and persevering through tough times, even when it feels like everything is falling apart.
One interesting fact about the song "Hang On" is that it was released in 1990, but it's still considered one of Gary Valenciano's most popular songs today. Another fact is that the song was written by Louie Ocampo and Edith Gallardo, two of the most famous Filipino composers of the time. Additionally, the song has been covered by many other artists over the years, including Regine Velasquez and David Archuleta.
In terms of the song's composition, it features a simple yet catchy melody that's easy to sing along to. The chorus in particular is very memorable, with its repetitive "Just hang on" refrain. The song's instrumentation is also noteworthy, with a strong bassline and lively drums that give the track a sense of energy and urgency.
Overall, "Hang On" is a timeless love song that continues to resonate with listeners today. It's a reminder to hold onto hope even when things seem bleak, and a testament to the power of love to overcome any obstacle.

Sometimes it's hard to know that it's all over
It's difficult to accept that our relationship has ended
Sometimes it hurts so bad
The pain of losing you is unbearable at times
To think that we did feel much for each other
It's painful to acknowledge that we used to care deeply for each other
Yet lost what we once have
But unfortunately, we are no longer together
To love you is one thing I can do
I can't change the past, but I will always love you
I have always been around to love you
I have never stopped loving you
But times when I'm alone I feel so empty
Although I love you, I still feel lonely without you
I've always wished you're here
I wish you were here with me right now
And now you're gone and all is gone forever
But you're not here and everything we had is gone forever
Oh girl, it's so unfair
It feels unjust that we couldn't make it work
Remember the things I always say
Please recall the things I always tell you
I made them all so please believe the things
I say these things because I believe in them and they are true
That I've been telling you
I hope you remember the things I've said in the past
Just hang on
Don't give up on us just yet
Who knows we might get there
There's always a chance we can make it work
After all the waiting done
Once we've been patient enough
We'll be the ones to find out
We will discover whether or not we can work it out
If we hang on
If we persevere and continue to try
You know we're on our way
We are making progress
At times when I'm alone I feel so empty
Sometimes when I am by myself, I feel a profound sense of emptiness
When I look at the sky
As I gaze up at the sky
I see your memory
I am reminded of you
That was where I used to be
I remember the times we spent together under the same sky
I love you
My love for you is unwavering
I always think of you
You're always on my mind
Please listen to the words I say
I hope you hear and understand what I am saying
Just hang on
Keep holding on and don't give up yet
If we hang on
If we continue to try and work things out
You know we're on our way
We are making progress towards reconciliation
