God Be Praised
Gateway Worship Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

You saved my life from death
When I was all defeated
You spoke Your promises
And brought life to my weakness
Came as a conquering King
And You warred for my freedom
My soul can't help but sing
Hallelujah

You opened up my eyes
For the first time I saw You
Your love commanding life
And deserving devotion
You told me who I am
Now in faith I believe it
My soul can't help but sing
Hallelujah

You've made a place for me
Silenced all my accusers
Leading me forth with peace
Filled with joy I will follow
Your cross demands my life
Now Your grace is my anthem
My soul can't help but sing
Hallelujah

Hallelujah, we're redeemed and made free
By the blood of the Lamb We have won
Hallelujah, we will sing victory

Jesus conquered the grave
God be praised

Here are my thoughts: When Jesus said "do not love the world or anything in it" he did not mean that we cannot enjoy anything. What he was saying was do not hold onto anything in this passing world. Do not let it occupy a place in your heart that would keep you from following Him. Do not "love" anything in the way that we are to "love the Lord with all our heart". Do not love the customs of this world or the way it operates, because all of these things are passing away.

Hold tightly and "love" God and the kingdom he is bringing to the earth, show that you love God by loving people. (Check out Mark 12:30-31, 1 corinthians 13, Ephesians 5). The definition of "love" we are using here in loving the song is more akin to "thoroughly enjoy" while the love that Jesus spoke about meant to embrace and unite yourself with/take on as your own (i.e. similar to how in a marriage two people are joined together - he mean do not join yourself to the world or anything in it).

Another example, do not love your riches, do not love your status, do not love your good times, "do not love your father or mother more than Me" - all these things come and go. While they can be appreciated, don't unite yourself with them or "identify" with them. Unite yourself and identify with Jesus Christ and serve him alone.

I hope that helps!
