Love Is Just a Game
Gatlin Brothers Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Love is just a game that everybody plays
And when the game is over not everybody pays
Some play the game to lose, some play the game to win
The winners walk out laughing, the losers cry, deal again

Lately you and I have played the game
Now there's no feeling left except for the pain
Finally comes the time to fall apart
And I fine that I am in way over my heart

Oh you've been holding on to holding on
But we can't leave not well enough alone any longer
We're not making love, we're keeping score
It's a simple matter, it don't matter anymore

'Cause love is just a game that everybody plays
And when the game is over not everybody pays
Some play the game to lose some play the game to win
The winners walk out laughing, the losers cry, deal again

Deal again
Deal again

Deal again
Deal again

Overall Meaning

The lyrics of Gatlin Brothers’ song, “Love Is Just a Game”, explain that love is a game that everyone plays. Some individuals play to win, while others play to lose. Even after the game ends, not everyone pays the price. Some come out as winners, walking away with laughter, while others are left crying.

The song discusses a relationship that has come to an end. The two people involved in this love game are left with nothing but pain. Even though they have been holding onto each other, they can no longer stay together. They have lost the feeling of love, and what is left is the game. It is not about making love anymore, but keeping score, and it no longer matters as it once did.

In the end, the lyrics convey that love is just a never-ending game, where winners and losers eventually arise. It is a simple matter, and eventually, the game will start again, and the players will deal their cards. The song’s lyrics reveal the harsh reality of love and relationships where emotions and feelings are under constant pressure and at stake.

The only complaint I have about this song is that it ends too soon. Great song. My dad was in a country band called Mustang in the 70s and they covered this song. It's actually here on YouTube. Always loved this one.

@danielburns987

this song went to #3 on the country charts in 1977!!!

What a great song huh? Still sounds good at 55 years old!!

@kathrynwhitaker4171

This should be released again under the title "Deal Again" with those words repeated several times with variations of
the harmonic theme.
STUNNING! Maybe a duet?
