Where in the World
Gavin Friday Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
The truth lies deep under our skin,
Bite the hand that gives, kiss the hand that takes.
Where in the world can I turn and look to?
Things never change they fade away.
The Church of Love ... it's law and disorder.
We're meant to give more than we take.
Calling Gods on high, it's in your name millions die,
no golden cold image can redeem,
The tongue tells lies, minds deceive.
I turn around and see a finger pointing at me.
Where in the world can I turn and look to?
Things never change they fad away.
The Church of Love ... it's law and disorder Where
cheating hearts can kneel and pray.
Put your feet on the water,
play Jesus for the day... They say the times are a
changin', we've woken to our ignorance,
truly I believe but I find it hard to see.
Where in the world can I turn and look to?
Things never change they fade away.
The Church of Love... it's law and disorder We're meant
to give more than we take.
Where in the world can I turn and look to?
Things never change they fade away.
The Church of Love ... it's law and disorder Where
cheating hearts can kneel and pray.
The lyrics of Gavin Friday's song "Where In The World?" convey a sense of disillusionment and hopelessness. The opening lines suggest that our souls have become commodities to be bought and sold, while our hearts have been abandoned. The truth, we are told, lies deep beneath our skin, implying that it is something we cannot easily access. The rest of the song is a series of questions about where to turn for answers and where to look for hope or salvation. The Church of Love, which the song presents as a kind of institution, is portrayed as chaotic and corrupt, where the faithful can "cheat" and still find comfort. The lyrics also touch on themes of power, hypocrisy, deception, and the difficulty of finding truth in a world that seems to be deteriorating.
The song's chorus repeats the titular phrase "Where in the world can I turn and look to?" several times. This serves to emphasize the sense of confusion and disorientation that the lyrics convey. The repeated use of the word "fade" also adds to the sense of decay and decline. The song's imagery is stark and powerful, with references to fingers pointing, gods watching from on high, and millions dying. The lyrics suggest that the world we inhabit is a place of lies and deceptions, where even our own minds can betray us.
