When I was thirteen, a friend of mine died
At the age of thirteen, I experienced the death of a close friend which made me realize that life is temporary

That's when I realized that we aren't here forever
The death of my friend made me understand that everyone and everything has an end

And I wonder what she saw when she got to the other side
I have often contemplated what lies beyond death, and what my friend experienced when she passed away

Was she pleasantly surprised, were all her questions answered?
I have pondered if my friend, upon death, was met with pleasant revelations and if all her questions were answered

I often turn to the sky, perhaps hoping for a sign or a sense of peace, but I am usually left with no comfort

I look down at the ground and think
When I am searching for answers, I find myself looking to the ground below

There's no right or wrong, it's just a little complicated
Life is not a straightforward, black-and-white experience; there are complexities and uncertainties

There's no rhyme or reason 'cause it's only what you make it
Life is not predetermined by fate or a higher power, it is only what each individual chooses to make of it

I could cry about it or just laugh until I choke
In the face of life's difficulties and uncertainties, one can either choose to be overwhelmed with sadness or find humor in the situation

God's got a sense of humor
In the midst of all of life's challenges, it seems that a higher power is able to find humor and irony in our experiences

There is no inherent good or bad in life, only individuals who are figuring things out as they go along

The world's a scary place and we're all stuck here being human
Existence can be a frightening and intimidating experience, and we are all simply human beings trying to navigate it

Guess it's kinda funny that there's things I'll never know
Despite our attempts to understand life and the mysteries it holds, there will always be some things that remain unknown

When I was fifteen, I didn't wanna cope
At the age of fifteen, I found it difficult to deal with the pressures and uncertainties of life

Didn't wanna find hope, 'cause there's just so much pressure
I felt overwhelmed and stressed, and the idea of finding hope seemed too daunting

To try and be happy when you're out of control
When life seems to be spinning out of control, it can be a challenge to maintain a sense of happiness and balance

'Cause you're so vulnerable, and the world's on fire
In these moments of chaos and uncertainty, we can feel incredibly vulnerable, and like the world around us is in a state of chaos

Every time I get down on my knees
When I turn to prayer or meditation as a way of coping with life's challenges

And I pray I just end up feeling more alone
Despite my attempts at reaching out to a higher power, I often feel a sense of isolation and loneliness

God, I need somethin' to believe in
In times of doubt and uncertainty, I am desperate for something to hold onto and believe in

But the more that I try, the more that I don't
Despite my best efforts, it feels like the harder I try to find meaning or answers, the more elusive they become
