Cry Me A River
Gayle Crystal Lyrics

You cry the whole night through
Well, you can cry me a river, cry me a river
I cried a river over you
Now you say you're sorry for being so untrue
Well, you can cry me a river, cry me a river
I cried a river over you
You drove me, nearly drove me out of my head
While you never shed a tear, remember?
I remember all that you said, told me love was too plebeian
Told me you were through with me and
Now you say you love me
Well, just to prove it's true
You can cry me a river, cry me a river
I cried a river over you
Cry me a river, cry me a river
I cried a river over you
Gayle Crystal's "Cry Me A River" is a song about heartbreak and betrayal. The lyrics depict a person who has been left by their partner and is now being told that they are lonely and sorry for being untrue. The person who has been left behind responds by saying, "Well, you can cry me a river, cry me a river. I cried a river over you." This line implies that the person has already suffered a great deal because of the actions of their partner, and they are not interested in hearing any more apologies.
The chorus of the song repeats the phrase "Cry me a river" several times. This repetition serves to emphasize the frustration and anger that the person is feeling towards their former partner. It also suggests that the person believes their partner's tears are insincere and not worthy of sympathy.
The second verse of the song describes how the person was driven "nearly out of [their] head" by their partner's behavior. The partner apparently never shed a tear during this time, even though they were causing the person a great deal of pain. The partner even told the person that love was "too plebeian" and that they were through with them. These lyrics suggest that the partner was arrogant and dismissive towards the person they left behind.
Overall, "Cry Me A River" is a song about the pain of heartbreak and the frustration that comes with being mistreated by a former partner. The lyrics emphasize the idea that actions speak louder than words and that apologies can only go so far in repairing a damaged relationship.

Again, one of the finest, most under-rated performances in Country Music. Crystal Gayle had a quality that no other performer has ever possessed before or since.

Crystal has been a favorite of mine since I was a kid. Got this album back in the 70s. But it's timeless!

I think this song means . He left her and broke her heart . She cried so many tears . But now he wants to come back . He says he still loves her the tables have turned . She wants him to cry her a river to prove he still does . I don't think it will any good . Cry Me A River
