The first verse begins with her wanting to party while he does not want to go, and she often gets mad at him for it. He lets her go anyway and hits the studio, where he gets into his zone while she watches him record. He feels like he is getting better at his craft when he's alone as he has no distractions.
The second verse highlights the problems he is facing in his life. He takes thirty pills while drinking to have a good night's sleep. He also mentions that everything that goes in his cup is dirty, reflecting on the bitterness of his life. However, he also expresses how music is important to his life, bringing him both money and the desire to keep going. Though he is famous and everybody wishes they could be him, he was alone when he started his career, working in his room with no advance. Frosty is mentioned and how they were planning their careers together back in their sophomore year.
Ultimately the chorus makes an appearance in which he says that he will not let her go, even though he knows they are different. He still enjoys their time together while pursuing his passion for music. The song reflects the struggles of young artists and their efforts to become successful while also trying to deal with their love lives.
