The Ram Jam Band were formed around 1964 and evolved out of a group called Les Blues who were formed to rival a English group with a Black American singer called Milton And The Continentals. Before taking on Geno Washington, they had been backing a British Blues singer by the name of Errol Dixon. Their first single featuring Dixon, "Shake, Shake, Senora" / "Akinla" released on Columbia had sunk without a trace.
Geno Washington was a U.S. airman stationed in East Anglia who became well known for his impromptu performances in London nightclubs. In 1965, guitarist Pete Gage needed a singer front his new band and replace the previous singer Errol Dixon, and asked Washington to join and the latter was discharged from the U.S. Air force, he became the band's frontman.
The band broke up in the autumn of 1969 and the band members went their own ways while Geno Washington continued as a solo artist before returning to the United States.

why does my heart turn every single time i cry
why i cant i stiop the ses teardrops falling like rain over you no matter how much i try and istill get a pain
can't wash away the pain
cant wash away the water jus a plain old water
water thats all teardrops guess what i found when you said goodbye that's all tear drops
sometimes i feel like im drowing since youve gone all the time i could stop those heartaches if you come home come home
CHORUS
The lyrics of Geno Washington & The Ram Jam Band's song Water convey a sense of heartbrokenness and trying to cope with the pain caused by a breakup. The singer is often filled with tears and despite trying hard to move on, the pain persists. The opening lines of the song, "Water, that's all teardrops, guess what I found when you said goodbye? That's all teardrops," set the tone for the rest of the song.
The singer questions why their heart still hurts every time they cry and why they can't stop the tears from falling. They claim that the pain caused by the breakup cannot be washed away even by water itself, as they serve as a constant reminder of the hurt they feel. The singer admits to feeling like they are drowning and that they could ease the pain if their partner returns.
Overall, the lyrics convey a sense of deep sorrow, heartbreak and longing for the return of the one who left.
