Geoff Muldaur was a founding member of the Jim Kweskin Jug Band which Maria later joined. After the Kweskin Jug Band broke up, the Muldaurs produced two albums together.
Their first album, Pottery Pie, was released on Warner Brothers Records in 1969. It was on this album that the Muldaurs recorded "Brazil" (original title "Aquarela do Brasil") which became the title inspiration and the opening theme for Terry Gilliam's 1985 film Brazil. After recording Pottery Pie, the Muldaurs moved to the burgeoning folk, blues and folk-rock in Woodstock, New York. They separated in 1972, shortly after Geoff joined Paul Butterfield's Better Days group.
Both Muldaurs went on to record solo albums.

We stood beneath an amber moon
And softly murmured "Someday soon"
We kissed and clung together
Then, tomorrow was another day
The morning found me miles away
With still a million things to say
Now, when twilight dims the sky above
There′s one thing I'm certain of
Return I will to old Brazil
Then, tomorrow was another day
The morning found me miles away
With still a million things to say
Now, when twilight dims the sky above
Recalling thrills of our love
There′s one thing that I'm certain of
Return I will to old Brazil
That old Brazil
Man, it's old in Brazil
Brazil, Brazil
The song "Brazil" by Geoff & Maria Muldaur is a romantic ballad which sets the mood of nostalgia and longing for a previous love. The lyrics reminisce about a night in Brazil where the two lovers stood beneath an amber moon, speaking softly about their future together, kissing and clinging to each other. However, the very next day, they were forced apart and the singer is left feeling like there were still a million things left to say. The song then transitions to the present day where the singer thinks back on their love, stating that there's one thing they're certain of and that is the desire to return to old Brazil.
The lyrics of the song are evocative and paint a vivid picture of two people in love, while the strains of the gentle tune in the background add to the overall romantic feel. The song is reminiscent of classic love ballads, and the lyrics often describe the setting and mood of the moment, adding to the romantic ambiance.
