The lyrics to this song were written by Paul McCartney, who used the pseudonym "Bernard Webb" to avoid associating the song with The Beatles. Heather was originally intended to be a demo for The Tremeloes, but the band declined to record it. McCartney later gave the song to Irish singer Mary Hopkin, who included it on her debut album. The song was also released as a single but failed to chart in the UK.
