Tennessee Whiskey
George Jones Lyrics

Liquor was the only love I've known
But you rescued me from reaching for the bottle
And you brought me back from being too far gone
You're as smooth as Tennessee whiskey
You're as sweet as strawberry wine
You're as warm as a glass of brandy
I looked for love in all the same old places
Found the bottom of the bottle always dry
But when you poured out your heart, I didn't waste it
'Cause there nothing like your love to gettin' me high
You're as smooth as Tennessee whiskey
You're as sweet as strawberry wine
You're as warm as a glass of brandy
And I stay stoned on your love all the time
I stay stoned on your love all the time
The song "Tennessee Whiskey" by George Jones is a country classic that tells the story of a person who found themselves lost in alcohol and drinking every night in a barroom. The lyrics start with a line that captures the heart of the song and sets the tone for the story. The singer says, "I used to spend my nights out in a barroom, liquor was the only love I've known." This line establishes a sense of loneliness and desperation that the singer feels before he meets the love of his life.
The singer then goes on to portray how his partner saved him from the destructive behavior of drinking and helped him return from the edge of going too far. It is a story of redemption and love that helped him to overcome his addiction. He compares his love to Tennessee whiskey, which is known for its richness and depth. The lyrics of the song also use some very creative and picturesque language to portray their love. The singer compares her love to "sweet strawberry wine" and "warm glass of brandy."
In the end, he expresses the depth of his love by saying, "And I stay stoned on your love all the time." This line shows how his love for his partner has become an addiction, like his previous addiction to alcohol. The song's message is about the redemptive power of love and how it can help people overcome addiction, loneliness, and despair.

My husband sang this song to me on our first date. Every time the song was played we had to dance even if we had to stop and get out of the car. We renewed our vows after 25 yrs and thay was our song. I lost him 3 weeks ago and it will always be our song.
