Calling You
George Michael Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴

A desert road from Vegas to nowhere
Someplace better than where you`ve been
A coffe machine that needs some fixin`
In a little cafe just around the bend

Chorus:
I am calling you
Can`t you hear me?
I am calling you

ooch...

I am calling you
Can't you hear me?
I am calling you

A desert road from Vegas to nowhere
Someplace better than where you`ve been
A coffe machine that needs some fixin`
In a little cafe just around the bend

A hot dry wind blows right through me
The baby`s crying so I can`t sleep
But we both know the change is coming
Come in closer, sweet release

Chorus:
I am calling you
Can`t you hear me?
I am calling you

ooch no no...

Desert road from Vegas to nowhere.

Overall Meaning

The lyrics to George Michael's song "Calling You" seem to describe a moment of desperation and longing, where the singer is stuck in a desolate place and is calling out for help. The "desert road from Vegas to nowhere" suggests that the singer is lost and directionless, and is searching for a way out. The line "someplace better than where you've been" implies that the singer has been through some difficult times, and is now looking for a fresh start. The image of a broken coffee machine in a small cafe suggests a lack of basic comforts and amenities, which might exacerbate the feeling of being lost and alone.

The chorus of the song emphasizes the singer's plea for help - they are calling out to someone, but it's not clear who. The repeated lines create a sense of urgency and intensity, as if the singer is reaching the end of their rope. The final lines of the chorus "ooch...no no..." add a touch of desperation and sadness, as if the singer fears that their calls may not be heard.

The second verse of the song expands on the sense of discomfort and unease described in the first verse. The "hot dry wind" suggests a harsh and unforgiving environment, while the crying baby creates a sense of chaos and stress. Despite this, the singer seems to believe that change is coming - a glimmer of hope in an otherwise bleak landscape. The final line of the verse "come in closer, sweet release" implies that the singer is looking for comfort and solace, perhaps from a person or a higher power.

Overall, the lyrics to "Calling You" paint a vivid picture of a person in distress, searching for a way out of a difficult situation. The repeated chorus reinforces the idea that the singer is calling out for help, but it's not clear if their calls will be answered. The song is a poignant reminder of the power of human connection when we are at our most vulnerable.

Calling You"

A Desert Road From Vegas To Nowhere
Someplace better than where you've been
A coffee machine that needs some fixin' -
In a little cafe just around the bend

[Chorus:]
I am calling you
Can't you hear me?
I am calling you.

A hot dry wind blows right through me
The baby's crying and i can't sleep
Bit we both know that a change is coming
Gome in closer, sweet release

[Chorus]

Desert road from vegas to nowhere
Dear friends
So dear friends your love has gone
Only tears to dwell upon
I dare not say as the wind must blow
So a love is lost, a love is won
Go to sleep and dream again
Soon your hopes will rise and then
From all this gloom life can start anew
And there'll be no crying soon

I miss him. He was outstanding and way ahead of his time. No one will ever be able to sing and deliver vocal abilities like him. And damn he could dance like hell. Not to mention handsome and easy on the eyes.
