How Great Thou Art
George Nooks Lyrics

O Lord my God, when I in awesome wonder,
Consider all the worlds Thy hands have made;
I see the stars, I hear the rolling thunder,
Thy power throughout the universe displayed.

[Chorus]
Then sings my soul, my Savior God, to Thee,
How great Thou art, how great Thou art.
Then sings my soul, my Savior God, to Thee,
How great Thou art, how great Thou art!

When through the woods, and forest glades I wander,
And hear the birds sing sweetly in the trees.
When I look down, from lofty mountain grandeur
And see the brook, and feel the gentle breeze.

[Chorus]
Then sings my soul, my Savior God, to Thee,
How great Thou art, How great Thou art.
Then sings my soul, my Savior God, to Thee,
How great Thou art, How great Thou art!

And when I think, that God, His Son not sparing;
Sent Him to die, I scarce can take it in;
That on the cross, my burden gladly bearing,
He bled and died to take away my sin.

[Chorus]
Then sings my soul, my Savior God, to Thee,
How great Thou art, how great Thou art.
Then sings my soul, my Savior God, to Thee,
How great Thou art, how great Thou art!

When Christ shall come, with shout of acclamation,
And take me home, what joy shall fill my heart.

Then I shall bow, in humble adoration,
And then proclaim: "My God, how great Thou art!"

The song "How Great Thou Art" by George Nooks is a powerful and emotional tribute to God and his greatness. The first stanza makes reference to the awe-inspiring beauty of nature and the universe, and points to God as the creator and master of it all. The breathtaking wonder that is felt when looking at the stars, or hearing the thunder, is attributed to God's power, which is displayed throughout the universe. It's a reminder of the sheer magnitude and majesty of God and nature, which elicits feelings of reverence and humility within the heart of the believer.

The second stanza draws attention to the peaceful and harmonious moments within nature, such as walking through the woods, listening to the sweet melody of the birds in the trees, or standing atop a lofty mountain and feeling a gentle breeze. These moments of tranquility and beauty offer a glimpse of the divine nature of God, and it's easy to understand why the singer's soul bursts forth in joyful song to God.

The final stanza speaks of the ultimate sacrifice of God's only Son, who died on the cross to save humanity from their sins. The song is a powerful reminder of the majesty, grace, and love of God and is a perfect representation of what many believers feel in their hearts.
