During the 1980s and early 1990s, Levert scored big hits with "Pop, Pop, Pop, Pop (Goes My Mind)", "Casanova", and "ABC-123" (not to be confused with the Jackson Five hit of the same name). As a solo artist, Gerald's hits included "I'd Give Anything (to Fall in Love)", "You Got That Love", and "Mr. Too Damn Good to You".
Gerald and Eddie collaborated together on many different occasions, and they recorded an album called Father and Son together.
Gerald Levert also sang the chorus on the Chris Rock spoken-word comedy piece, "No Sex (In the Champagne Room)".
In 2005, Levert's daughter Carlysia was featured on an episode of MTV's My Super Sweet Sixteen.
Levert passed away due to an apparent heart attack on November 10, 2006. Sister 2 Sister magazine reported that Gerald and his father had just returned from a 10-day trip to South Africa where they had met with Nelson Mandela and were treated like royalty. Upon Gerald's return, he was excited about his upcoming album, which is due early in 2007. Gerald died in his sleep.

But I had to let you know that this bullshit got to stop
You're my woman now and you're full grown
Got a baby in my hand and your mama on the phone
Hit me with the boo-boo all on my ear
Talkin' 'bout the business over here
You better check 'cause you know that I fear
Just us, just you and me
That's how it's supposed to be
All your friends and your family
I ain't gonna let them worry me
Just us, just you and me
That's how it's supposed to be
All your friends and your family
I ain't gonna let them worry me
And girl it reach a point about four five time
Tryin' to tell me I'll take care of this baby boy of mine
Talk about did you feed him? Yeah, he should take a nap
Better step to your girlfriend before the trick he slap
Hit me with the boo-boo all on my ear
Talkin' 'bout the business over here
You better check 'cause you know that I fear
She don't me that well, I don't care
Just us, just you and me
That's how it's supposed to be
All your friends and your family
I ain't gonna let them worry me
Just us, just you and me
That's how it's supposed to be
All your friends and your family
I ain't gonna let them worry me
?
Like he mean he will
So he don't like the way I treat you
Tell him go to hell
He told a friend of mine
That he gon' whip my ass
Till you let your brother know
I say he know what I'll do, yeah
Hit me with the boo-boo all on my ear
Talkin' 'bout the business over here
You better check him 'cause you know that I fear
You don't know me that well, I don't care
Just us, just you and me
That's how it's supposed to be
All your friends and your family
I ain't gonna let them worry me
Just us, just you and me
That's how it's supposed to be
All your friends and your family
I ain't gonna let them worry me
'Cause I love you
I love you, I love you
I love you, yeah
Take your meals on time
Make your baby's mind
Give you my last dime
I'm yours and you're mine
Just you and me
Just us, just you and me
That's how it's supposed to be
All your friends and your family
I ain't gonna let them worry me
Just us, just you and me
That's how it's supposed to be
All your friends and your family
I ain't gonna let them worry me
Love you, love you
Love you, love you
Love you, love you
Love you, love you
Just us, just you and me
That's how it's supposed to be
All your friends and your family
I ain't gonna let them worry me
Just us, just you and me
That's how it's supposed to be
All your friends and your family
I ain't gonna let them worry me
In "Just Us" by Gerald Levert, the singer is reaching out to his partner while she is trying to work. He explains to her that they should have a relationship without her friends and family getting involved. He tells her that she is a grown woman, and he has their child in his hand while her mother is on the phone. The bridge of the song opens up with Levert saying, "Hit me with the boo-boo all on my ear." In this part, he is saying that his partner is complaining to him about her family and friends talking about their relationship when he doesn't want to hear it. Levert sings that he fears her friends and family don't know him very well, but he doesn't care because he is committed to her.
In the second verse, Levert touches on a much more serious issue. He says that her family or friends have threatened to physically harm him. He tells her that he isn't scared, and she needs to let her brother know. He repeats the chorus throughout the song, emphasizing that he wants a relationship that is just between the two of them.
