Fire Burning
Ghetts feat. KOF Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

I'm tired of working
Even when I smile I'm hurting
Is this what life's about? I don't
Wanna die in search of
Finding out what really keeps
The fire burning

My mother told me that Granny
Worked her whole life
(paying off the mortgage)
Granny worked them cold nights
(seething for her daughters)
With no man the slow grind
Had her slaving for the
Thought of her kids' kids
(who else?) , kids' kids
And this is what I witnessed as an infant
For instance
The hardest-working artist in England
Is anyone they classed as
A juvenile delinquent (who am I?)
Son of Karen, grandson of Ruth
Imagine if my mother hadn't met
Lennox and had a yute
In fact, don't imagine that
It's with established you
It's who? And like you know
Hard work's in my bloodline
But sometimes I ask my mum
Why she works two jobs
And works through lunchtime
And most the money's gone
When the taxman comes by, well
(If this is what we're living for
Then I don't wanna live it all
How can money make me miserable?)

Can't afford a car, let's call it Lambo
Listening to Carter IV wishing
I had mad dough
(Still I'm saying) God bless the people
With a 9 to 5
Who still end up jobless to the
People who define this life
It shouldn't be stars
It should be commoners we idolise
For saying that a lot of
Stars were commoners like (I and I)
Ballers like
(Ferdinand) , boxers like (Iron Mike)
Singers like Adele
And every one of these feminist spitters
Have to pay homage to (Dynamite)
But the question is when you
Get what you want, will you be satisfied?
Probably not, i bet you want the next
Thing that they advertise
Looking in the mirror to
Analyse the average guy
How can I be happy if I'm never content? Well
(If this is what we're living for
Then I don't wanna live it all
How can money make me miserable?)

The fire burning the fire burning
The fire burning the fire burning
Finding out what really keeps
The fire burning

Finding out what really keeps
The fire burning

Overall Meaning

The lyrics of "Fire Burning" by Ghetts feat. KOF explore the struggle and disillusionment that comes with the pursuit of success and the pressure to constantly work hard. The song begins with the artist expressing weariness from working tirelessly and feeling the pain even when appearing happy. He questions the purpose of life and expresses a desire to avoid dying without ever truly understanding what drives the fire within.

The second verse delves into the artist's personal experiences and family history. He recounts how his grandmother worked tirelessly to pay off the mortgage and provide for her daughters, sacrificing her own comfort for the future generations. The artist acknowledges his own hard work and talent, questioning the perception society has of him as a juvenile delinquent. He highlights the importance of his mother meeting someone like Lennox (presumably his father) and having a child, emphasizing the impact of these connections on his own existence.

The lyrics then reflect on the paradoxical nature of hard work and money. The artist wonders why his mother works two jobs, sees most of her money disappear when the taxman comes, and questions how money can make someone miserable. He criticizes the skewed societal values that idolize celebrities instead of valuing the hard work of everyday people. He mentions various examples, like footballer Rio Ferdinand, boxer Mike Tyson, singer Adele, and feminist artists who have achieved success but discusses the dissatisfaction that often accompanies success.

In summary, "Fire Burning" delves into the exhaustion and disillusionment that can come from the pressures of work, money, and societal expectations. It questions the true meaning of success and suggests that it is important to find fulfillment and contentment beyond material gains.

This song is brilliant, id say it was the best on the album but with others like These words or broken home it's just too difficult to choose a best. What is so good about ghetts is he sticks to the music he wants to make instead of selling out and going generic for fame and money. And the music he makes, such as this song, really has meaning and can make you feel something, which is what music should be about. The music industry is broken, as is proven by the fame of the likes of one direction, justin bieber and miley cyrus. But having artists like ghetts makes up for the shit that gets into the charts nowadays.

He's one who i hundred per cent believe and have faith wont switch... hes too much of a sleeping giant.... u cant leash sleeping giants..... hes too real to turn fake. Elevated to a level of realness beyond the likes of those who fell to mainstream like dizzy, tinie, and chip....
