Hideaway
Ghost Atlas Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Sometimes
I feel right at home
But when I don't, it takes all I've got to find
A high I don't rely upon

Float along the roads where you hide away
Save all the memories you want
Carry on, bury all the messages
But don't pull away when you go

Sometimes
I try to play the part
But then I start
To question the differences between who we are

Float along the roads where yofu hide away
Save all the memories you want
Carry on, bury all the messages
But don't pull away when you go
Carry on, bury all the messages
But don't pull away when you go, away when you go

Sometimes (Sometimes)
Sometimes I feel alone in a crowded room

Float along the roads where you hide away
Save all the memories you want
Carry on, bury all the messages
But don't pull away when you go
Carry on, bury all the messages
But don't pull away when you go, away when you go

Away when you go (Carry on)
Carry on (Away when you go)

Overall Meaning

The lyrics of "Hideaway" by Ghost Atlas explores the feeling of being lost and alienated in a world where everyone else seems to have their life together. The song opens with the confusion of the singer and how difficult it is to find a solace that isn't dependent on anything else. The lyrics suggest that the singer would try to escape from his problems by hiding away, and sometimes it works, allowing him to save happy memories, but other times it doesn't, and he's forced to face his issues. This line emphasizes that it's hard to separate oneself from their problems, and they're always looking for an escape.

As the chorus unfold, the singer urges the listener to keep moving forward, but not to forget where they came from, as the messages buried in them are affirmatives of their struggles. The song expresses the feeling of being lost by juxtaposing it with the concept of holding on to memories, burying messages and carrying on, making it hard for one to differentiate where they ought to go. The verse, "Sometimes I feel alone in a crowded room," encapsulates the overarching sentiment of the piece, addressing the loneliness that accompanies feelings of isolation.

In essence, the song can be interpreted as a message of hope, urging the listener to keep pushing despite the turbulence of life. "Hideaway" acknowledges that life isn't always as easy as we would like, but we must keep going despite the obstacles in our way.

I don't know what it is about your songs Jesse, but I'm deeply attached to them. I used to live alone for quite some time. Away from my home. That's when I found your songs. Perfect companion through cold winter months. I've changed over the years since I blasted Gold Soul Coma through my headphones every day. I've become dull over the years. Have trouble writing songs. Anxiety and personal problems get in the way of living day to day, but somehow when I listen to your songs I can feel that little spark or liveliness, freedom or rebelliousness, still lives somewhere deep down inside of me. I can feel it come alive in my heart. There's something special about your music. Can't really put my finger on it, but if I could I'd not been able to feel this way. Sometimes it's better not to understand. Thank you for everything. Thank you for giving me this, whatever this is.

Dude hope you're doing better now. I felt that comment. I too have become distant and detached this album and mostly this song got me through my divorce a few years back.

His song vertigo was on repeat every day at some point and it too sparked that little fire that I thought died out within me.

People suck life sucks but there's beauty in all that suffering. I wish you well and hope you're enjoying your life cheers my nigga

Listening to this song puts me in a trance and by the end I'm left in silence with the only thing I can hear being my heartbeat. It's really amazing..

I have been listening to ERRA and Ghost Atlas since Augment and I gotta say: Jesse Cash you know how to get me right in the feels. Like damn dude. Your music has had a dramatic impact on my life. Love you man!

PS: If you were to release acoustic covers of ERRA songs, I would probably die. Just sayin...

Only Jesse cash, John pretrucci and Mike einziger can make me love acoustic songs. Amazing at electric and acoustic. Like a drifty dreamy escape of dark relatable anxiety, floating up and down in peaceful yet horrifying wonder.
