Departures
Ghost Brigade Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Today all colours are bleeding
Across the ocean
I am sorry I couldn't stay

How does it feel to own what you are
To unstitch your heart without causing a flood
To fall but never ceasing to believe
In light taking over darkness
To breathe life in serenity

If only I knew how to forgive
If only I knew how to let go
If only I knew how to own what I am

Galaxies away
I am riding the waves of the lost
Lead this ship astray
Make me hate you again
Fear, trust, guilt, love
In the grip of a coming storm
I am sinking under the weight of a troubled sun

When bitterness conquered the heart
And left us crawling in the cold

Screaming worth a lifetime
With a voice of a follower
Always too soon
Always too late

Screaming worth a lifetime
With a voice of a follower
Always too soon
Always too late
Always in between

If only I knew how to forgive
If only I knew how to let go
If only I knew how to own what I am

If only I knew how to forgive

If only I knew how to let go
If only I knew how to own what I am

Overall Meaning

The lyrics of Ghost Brigade’s song Departures are introspective and melancholic. The opening verse speaks of colours bleeding across the ocean, which can be interpreted as a metaphor for emotions running high and causing turmoil. The following lines are about self-realization and introspection. The singer asks, “How does it feel to own what you are?” and talks about learning to forgive, let go, and take control of oneself. The last lines of the verse express a desire for serenity.

The chorus repeats the phrase “If only I knew how to forgive, if only I knew how to let go, if only I knew how to own what I am”. This repetition highlights the theme of self-discovery and learning to make peace with oneself. The second verse speaks of being lost and sinking under the weight of a troubled sun, further emphasizing a struggle with one’s self. The bridge has a sense of desperation, with the singer screaming about being too soon or too late.

Departures

Today all colors are bleeding.
Across the ocean.
I am sorry I couldn't stay.

How does it feel to own what you are.
To unstitch your heart without causing a flood.
To fall but never ceasing to believe.
In light taking over darkness.
To breathe life in serenity.

If only I knew how to forgive.
If only I knew how to let go.
If only I knew how to own what I am.

Galaxies away.
I am riding the waves of the lost.
Lead this ship astray.
Make me hate you again.
Fear, trust, guilt, love.
In the grip of a coming storm.
I am sinking under the weight of a troubled sun.
When bitterness conquered the heart.
And left us crawling in the cold.
Screaming worth a lifetime with a voice of a follower.
Always too soon. Always too late. Always in between.

If only I knew how to forgive.
If only I knew how to let go.
If only I knew how to own what I am.

One of the most underrated metal band.

Nymik

Had the pleasure of seeing this band a few times live, including a headline show in london and their set at 2am at the end of Summer Breeze... little did we know just a few days later they would announce their hiatus and disappear from our lives forever... RIP Ghost Brigade, one of the greats 😢 at least I have all 4 of your albums on vinyl now

That Sh‌ِi‌ُt Goood

The music GHOST BRIGADE made was not a generic sad boy music, the were the sound of solitude and gloom getting narratived by anger and melody...you know the kind of music you would listen on repeat on a lonely cloudy day on while getting smothered and drown in your own thoughs.

they were honestly best ever happened to modern metal yet they remained truly the most criminally underrated band of all time.

I love the fact that some people can appreciate their music

I saw them live five times.

Four times at a festival and once at a headliner show. The headliner show was close to perfect! Small venue, small audience(about 50 people), perfect sound, front row, even a beer and a short talk with Manne (who was a little drunk, but absolutelly NAILED it during the show!) at the merchandise(where I spent almost all my money! :-D) before the gig.

They never disappointed, never on record and absolutelly amazing live!

Please come back after Corona!!!
