Chandelier
Gia Lyrics

Party girls don′t get hurt
Can't feel anything, when will I learn?
I push it down, push it down

I′m the one "for a good time call"
Phone's blowin' up, ringin′ my doorbell
I feel the love, feel the love
1, 2, 3, 1, 2, 3, drink
1, 2, 3, 1, 2, 3, drink
1, 2, 3, 1, 2, 3, drink

Throw ′em back 'til I lose count

I′m gonna swing from the chandelier, from the chandelier
I'm gonna live like tomorrow doesn′t exist
Like it doesn't exist
I′m gonna fly like a bird through the night, feel my tears as they dry
I'm gonna swing from the chandelier, from the chandelier

But I'm holding on for dear life, won′t look down, won′t open my eyes
Keep my glass full until morning light, 'cause I′m just holding on for tonight
Help me, I'm holding on for dear life, won′t look down, won't open my eyes
Keep my glass full until morning light, ′cause I'm just holding on for tonight
On for tonight

Sun is up, I'm a mess
Gotta get out now, gotta run from this
Here comes the shame, here comes the shame

1, 2, 3, 1, 2, 3, drink
1, 2, 3, 1, 2, 3, drink
1, 2, 3, 1, 2, 3, drink

Throw ′em back ′til I lose count

I'm gonna swing from the chandelier, from the chandelier
I′m gonna live like tomorrow doesn't exist
Like it doesn′t exist
I'm gonna fly like a bird through the night, feel my tears as they dry
I′m gonna swing from the chandelier, from the chandelier

But I'm holding on for dear life, won't look down, won′t open my eyes
Keep my glass full until morning light, ′cause I'm just holding on for tonight
Help me, I′m holding on for dear life, won't look down, won′t open my eyes
Keep my glass full until morning light, 'cause I′m just holding on for tonight
On for tonight

On for tonight
'Cause I'm just holding on for tonight
Oh, I′m just holding on for tonight
On for tonight
On for tonight
′Cause I'm just holding on for tonight
′Cause I'm just holding on for tonight
Oh, I′m just holding on for tonight

On for tonight
On for tonight

Overall Meaning

The lyrics of Gia's song "Chandelier" project the image of a party girl who puts up a brave and carefree facade, but bears the weight of her pain and suffering beneath the surface. She lives her life recklessly, drowning herself in alcohol because she wants to make her pain go away. The opening line, "Party girls don't get hurt" connotes the idea that she thinks she is invincible when she is partying hard. However, she is aware that she feels nothing but emptiness that reflects in the lines, "Can't feel anything, when will I learn? I push it down, push it down."

As the song progresses, we see that the girl is aware of the fleeting nature of the thrill that comes with partying without regard for the future. She sings about swinging from the chandelier, living like there's no tomorrow, and flying like a bird through the night. However, she is also aware that these moments of bliss are fleeting, as the verse following the chorus shows regret and shame at her behavior, "Here comes the shame, here comes the shame."

Overall, the song's lyrics paint a poignant picture of someone who is trying to distract themselves from their inner turmoil by indulging in a hedonistic lifestyle. The song's chorus is a metaphorical plea for someone to save her from her current predicament because she has reached a point where she can't let go.

Oh God, what has this world come to if the standard for excellent singing is so low that "not using autotune" is already meeting it?

Fucking hell. 150 years ago people sang 6-hour operas without bad intonation, without hoarseness or raspiness or cracking. They could hold notes longer than any of today's starlets ever could, they sang without any artificial enhancement, not even microphones and still filled houses 20 times the size of this studio there.

And today people are considered admirable because they manage to sound somewhat decent without autotune or because they wiggle their fat asses or wear clothes made of meat.

Our ancestors must be proud of our education's and of our aesthetical sense's decay.

And why all that? Because "they express people's feelings". Well, guess what....if modern people's feelings only consist of living in prosperity and STILL complaining about "depressions" they have due to dumb shit like drug abuse that they got themselves into, then it's about time humanity dies from a disease or an atomic war. If only corona had been more deadly...
