Through the Storm
Giannis Georgantelis Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Hold tight, count to three
Gotta stay close by me
And hold tight, sing and shout
Just ride my roundabout
And hold tight, shut your eyes
Girl, you suit me for size
Forget the other guys
You'll never fall each time you call:
Hold tight! Hold tight! Hold tight!

Hold tight make me feel
What you say is for real
And hold tight, carousel
Girl, you'll soon ring my bell
And hold tight, we will fly
Swinging low, swinging high
We're gonna make the sky
You'll never fall each time you call:
Hold tight! Hold tight! Hold tight!

Hold tight, count to three
Gotta stay close by me
And hold tight, sing and shout
Just ride my roundabout
And hold tight, shut your eyes
Girl, you suit me for size
Forget the other guys

You'll never fall each time you call:
Hold tight! Hold tight! Hold tight!

Overall Meaning

The lyrics to Giannis Georgantelis's song Through the Storm revolve around the idea of holding on tight through difficult times. The first verse, "Hold tight, count to three, Gotta stay close by me, And hold tight, sing and shout, Just ride my roundabout", suggests a need for reassurance and support during a trying period. The next verse, "And hold tight, shut your eyes, Girl, you suit me for size, Forget the other guys, You'll never fall each time you call: Hold tight! Hold tight! Hold tight!", implies the singer's unwavering commitment to the person they are addressing. They believe that the individual is well-matched to them, and they are willing to be a constant source of strength and stability.

The repetition of "Hold tight!" throughout the song reinforces the message of steadfastness and determination, as well as being a call to action to the person being addressed. The use of the carousel metaphor in the second verse, "And hold tight, carousel, Girl, you'll soon ring my bell", can be interpreted as an allegory for navigating through life's ups and downs. The song's upbeat tempo and cheerful melody suggest a sense of optimism and a belief that, no matter the obstacles, there is the possibility for success and happiness.

I don't even know which way the wind is blowing from;
we are storm-tossed together with our black ship.
the waves are rolling
and we in the midst of them
are tossed about by the storm together with our black ship.
We are suffering from this great tempest;
we are storm-tossed together with our black ship.

@Yoel Armas Macías So what? Every Greek pronounces every period's Greek with the traditional contemporary historical pronunciation. Even Byzantine Greeks and Greeks in the Roman Empire did that with the older texts, using their contemporary pronunciation.
