Girl Bros. Lyrics

we were so alive then and yet
we would not survive
now i know
yours was not a face to grow old
oh oh no my old soul
you left me much too soon
oh i
i was so surprised when you left
i was like a child how i wept
but i guess it's ok now
go to sleep
and i will pray the lord your soul to keep
oh oh no my old soul
you left me much too soon
much much too soon
how i love you
oh i
somewhere down the road i will be walking
and everything i know will be following
maybe then i'll see you
and i will tell you
you always were an angel to me

The lyrics to Girl Bros.'s song Jonathan explore the pain and loss of a friendship that was cut short. The singer reminisces about the joy and energy they shared in their childhood, but also acknowledges the inevitable passage of time and the harsh realization that some people are not meant to grow old together. The song is a tribute to Jonathan, a friend who passed away too soon, leaving the singer with a sense of loss and grief.
The powerful emotion of the song is reflected in the use of vivid imagery and poignant language. The line "yours was not a face to grow old" is particularly haunting, conveying both the sadness of mortality and the beauty of a life lived fully. The singer's repeated lament of "oh oh no my old soul" speaks to the depth of their connection with Jonathan and the feeling that something significant has been lost.
Overall, the song captures the bittersweet nature of friendship and the power of memories to sustain us in times of sorrow.
