Morning Light
Girls Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Meet me in the morning light
We know it won't last forever
Wear it out while it feels right
We know that it's now or never
Meet me in the sky tonight
We could fly away together
Maybe if we try it right
We could make our love forever

Overall Meaning

The lyrics of Girls' song Morning Light talk about the fleeting nature of moments and how love can feel like it is slipping away. The singer is inviting their loved one to meet them in the morning light which is often associated with new beginnings, hope and optimism. Despite the beauty of the moment, they acknowledge that it won't last forever and that they need to make the most out of it while it feels right. There is a sense of urgency in the lyrics, as if the couple is running out of time to make their love last, which is why the singer suggests that they try to make it work right.

The second verse suggests that the couple could rise above their problems if they try, as if they need to physically escape their world and perspective to see things clearly. The metaphorical “sky” is a place of possibility and freedom, alluding that the couple together can overcome anything. The singer seems to believe that if they try hard enough, they can make their love last forever.

Overall, the lyrics of Morning Light are poetic, emotive, and deep. They touch upon themes of love, time, and the search for meaning and purpose in life. The song serves as a reminder that love is a precious thing that needs to be nurtured and protected. It is a call to action for couples who want to make their love last, to seize the day and take a leap of faith.

Effortless shoegaze revivalism.

I wish they'd made a whole record like this.

rock on!!! marvelous band!

@steves2ndaccount

Listen to their entire album before judging them based off one song. They're diverse with genre; you could literally hear inspiration from genres throughout the decades (folk, whatever Zeppelin was, garage rock, soul, surf rock, and so on). In this case, the song somewhat fuses 2 different types of 90's alt rock (a shoegaze tune sandwiched between abrasive, Sonic Youth-like riffs). Sounds a lot like "Mote" off of SY's Goo, but no complaints here.
