Knight started to record solo material due to legal issues that forced her and The Pips to record separately. Her solo debut "Miss Gladys Knight" was released in 1978 followed by "Gladys Knight" on Colombia Records. Knight recorded the title track for the James Bond movie "Licence To Kill." It became a Top 10 hit in the UK, peaking at #6. Knight's third solo album, "Good Woman" was released in 1991 on MCA Records (now Geffen Records). The album quickly climbed the charts to #1 on the Top R&B/Hip-Hop Albums chart. The album features the lead single, "Men" (#2 R&B). Her fourth album, "Just For You" followed in 1995. The album went Gold. Knight most recent album is her critically acclaimed ninth studio album, "Before Me", released in 2006.
If I Were Your Woman II

And you were my man
You'd have no other woman
You'd be weak as a lamb
If you had the strength
To walk out that door
My love would overrule my sense
And I'd call you back for more
If I were your woman
(If you were my woman)
If I were your woman
(If you were my woman)
And you were my man
Mmm yeah
She tears you down, darling
Says you're nothing at all
But I'll pick you up, darling
When she lets you fall
You're like a diamond
But she treats you like glass
Yet you beg her to love you
But me you don't ask
If I were your woman
(If you were my woman)
If I were your woman
If you were my woman
(If I were your woman)
If you were my woman
Here's what I'd do
I'd never no, no stop loving you
Yeah, yeah, mmm
Life is so crazy and love is unkind
Because she came first, darling
Will she hang on your mind?
You're a part of me
And you don't even know it
I'm what you need
But I'm too afraid to show it
If I were your woman
(If you were my woman)
If I were your woman
(If I were your woman)
If you were my woman
(If you were my woman)
Here's what I'd do
I'd never no, no stop loving you
Oh yeah, if I were your woman
Here's what I'd do
I'd never, never, never stop loving you
If I were your woman
You're sweet loving woman
You'd need no other woman
If you were my woman
If I were your woman
(If you were my woman)
Here's what I'd do
(If you were my woman)
If I were your woman
The song "If I Were Your Woman" by Gladys Knight is a story of unrequited love. The lyrics are sung from the perspective of a woman who is in love with a man who is in a relationship with another woman. The woman is frustrated with the man's current relationship and feels that she could love him better if she were his woman. She starts by stating that if she were his woman, he would have no other woman, and he would be weak and submissive to her love. Even if he left her, her love would be so strong that it would cause her to call him back for more.
As the song progresses, the woman sings about the man's current relationship and how the other woman tears him down and treats him poorly. She compares him to a diamond that his current woman treats like glass. Meanwhile, she describes the love that she could offer him, which is pure and never-ending. She admits that she is afraid to show her love for him, and she wonders if he even realizes how much he means to her.
The song's lyrics are relatable and emotionally charged, expressing feelings that many people have experienced in their love lives. The storytelling is enhanced by Gladys Knight's soulful voice and the song's powerful melody.
