Knight started to record solo material due to legal issues that forced her and The Pips to record separately. Her solo debut "Miss Gladys Knight" was released in 1978 followed by "Gladys Knight" on Colombia Records. Knight recorded the title track for the James Bond movie "Licence To Kill." It became a Top 10 hit in the UK, peaking at #6. Knight's third solo album, "Good Woman" was released in 1991 on MCA Records (now Geffen Records). The album quickly climbed the charts to #1 on the Top R&B/Hip-Hop Albums chart. The album features the lead single, "Men" (#2 R&B). Her fourth album, "Just For You" followed in 1995. The album went Gold. Knight most recent album is her critically acclaimed ninth studio album, "Before Me", released in 2006.
Misty
Gladys Knight Lyrics

And I feel like I'm clinging to a cloud
I can't understand, I get misty just holding your hand
Walk my way and a thousand violins begin to play
Or it might be the sound of your hello
That music I hear, I get misty the moment you're near
But it's just what I want you to do
Don't you notice how hopelessly I'm lost?
That's why I'm following you
On my own, would I wander through this wonderland alone?
Never knowing my right foot from my left
My hat from my glove, I'm too misty and too much in love
Oh yes, I'm in, oh, what a feeling
Oh, you can say that you're leading me on
But it's just want I want you to do
Don't you notice I'm hopelessly so lost?
That's why I'm following you
On my own, would I wander through this wonderland alone?
Never knowing my right foot from my left
My hat from my glove, I'm too misty and too much in love
I'm too misty, too misty and too much in love
I'm too misty, too much in love
If that's possible, I don't know
The opening verse of "Misty" is very poetic, describing the feeling of complete vulnerability and dependence. The line “Look at me, I'm as helpless as a kitten up a tree” shows how the singer feels lost and in need of help, like a kitten that has climbed too high and can’t get down. And the line “And I feel like I'm clinging to a cloud” highlights the dreamy, surreal feeling of being in love. The chorus reinforces this idea of confusion and disorientation, as the singer admits that they can’t understand their own feelings and they get “misty” just by holding hands with their loved one.
The second verse switches to a more positive tone, painting a picture of a romantic encounter with “a thousand violins” playing when the loved one walks by. The singer emphasizes that it’s not just the sound of the music, though; it’s the feeling they get when the loved one is near. Once again, the chorus brings the focus back to the singer’s own confusion and their trust in their loved one to lead them. The final verse has a sense of surrender, as the singer admits that they would be lost without their loved one and doesn’t even know basic things like left from right or hat from glove. The overall tone of the song is one of surrender and complete trust in another person, even in the face of confusion and vulnerability.

i saw a kenny G concert in london last year. the audience absolutely loves him. he enjoys what he does. he has sold more records that most instrumentalists. kenny g does not have to play complex jazz. he has found his market segment...people who just want easy listening and nothing more...
