The cast is second behind The Beatles for most chart appearances by a group act in the Billboard Hot 100's history, and holds the record of sixth overall among all artists, with sixty-nine appearances. The cast has sold over thirty six million and over eleven million albums worldwide. The series' cover versions have also had a positive effect on the original recording artists, with sales of Rihanna's "Take a Bow" increasing by 189 percent after the song was covered in the Glee episode "Showmance".
The series features covers of numerous songs sung on-screen by the characters. Musical segments typically take the form of performances, as opposed to the characters singing spontaneously, as the intention is for the series to remain reality-based. Murphy is responsible for selecting all of the songs used, and strives to maintain a balance between show tunes and chart hits, as: "I want there to be something for everybody in every episode. That's a tricky mix, but that's very important — the balancing of that." Song choices are integral to script development, with Murphy explaining: "Each episode has a theme at its core. After I write the script, I will choose songs that help to move the story along."
Glee is choreographed by Zach Woodlee, and features five to eight production numbers per episode. Once music rights are cleared, songs are arranged and pre-recorded by the cast. Woodlee constructs the accompanying dance moves, which are then taught to the cast and filmed. Numbers can take several weeks to prepare, depending on complexity. Each episode costs at least $3 million to produce, and can take up to 10 days to film as a result of the elaborate choreography.
Bamboleo / Hero

No tiene la culpa
Caballo de danza vana
Porque es muy despreciado,
Por eso no te perdono llorar
Este amor llega así esta manera
No tiene la culpa,
Amor de compra y venta
Bebele, bembele, bembele
Bebele, bembele, bembele
Bamboleo, bambolea
Would you dance
If I asked you to dance?
Would you run
And never look back?
Would you cry
If you saw me crying?
And would you save my soul, tonight?
Bamboleo, bambolea
Would you tremble
If I touched your lips?
Would you laugh?
Oh please tell me this
Now would you die
For the one you loved?
Hold me in your arms, tonight
I can be your hero, baby (Aaah!)
I can kiss away the pain (Aaah!)
I would stand by you forever (Aaah!)
You can take my breath away
Bamboleo, bambolea
Bamboleo, bambolea (Who)
Bamboleo (Bamboleo!) bambolea (I can be your hero, baby)
Porque mi vida, yo la prefiero vivir así (I can kiss away the pain)
Bamboleo, bambolea (I will stand by you forever)
Porque mi vida, yo la prefiero (You can take my breath away)
Bamboleo, bambolea (I can be your hero, baby)
Porque mi vida, yo la prefiero vivir así (I can kiss away the pain)
Bamboleo (Auuh!)
And I will stand by you
You can take my breath away
I can be your hero
The lyrics to Glee Cast's song "Bamboleo / Hero" are a combination of two songs, "Bamboleo" by Gypsy Kings and "Hero" by Enrique Iglesias. The first part of the lyrics is from "Bamboleo" and speaks about a love that comes in a certain way, without any fault, being compared to a vain dance. The singer mentions that this love is despised, and because of that, they cannot forgive the other person for crying. It also states that this love is like a transaction or something from the past.
The chorus, which repeats throughout the song, says "Bamboleo, bambolea, porque mi vida, yo la prefiero vivir así," which means "I sway, I rock, because I prefer to live my life this way." This could be interpreted as a declaration that the singer chooses to live their life with passion and unpredictability, rather than conforming to societal expectations.
The second part of the lyrics is from "Hero" and introduces a different theme. It asks the listener if they would dance, run, cry, or save someone's soul. It speaks of vulnerability and the willingness to sacrifice for love. The chorus, "I can be your hero, baby, I can kiss away the pain, I would stand by you forever, you can take my breath away," speaks about being a hero for someone and offering unconditional support and love.
Overall, these lyrics combine elements of passion, independence, vulnerability, and selflessness in the context of love and relationships.

"Cuando el amor llega así, de esta manera,
uno no se da ni cuenta, el cauca reverdece
y el guamanchito florece y la soga se revienta
Cuando el amor llega así, de esta manera,
uno no se da ni cuenta, el cauca reverdece

Caballo le dan sabana porque está viejo y cansao,

cuando le sueltan la rienda es caballo desbocao"
